Hello all
Back from a fab holiday, have been fluttering in the sun and keeping up with the thread here and there.
Home to a disaster! Tap connection failed in en suite, flooded bathroom, soaking bedroom carpet and water coming through kitchen ceiling:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Call to emergency plumber, water switched off, they came quite quickly fortunately but while I waited I unpacked the cases in the spare room! Had to keep busy or I might have fallen to pieces....
What a way to end a holiday!
Every room in the house now looks a mess, it cannot be helped and I am too tired to do more now, will resume trying to gain some order tomorrow. It could be quite some time coming though!!!0 -
Well I am awake ridiculously early but just couldn’t sleep for worrying how to sort the mess out... we emptied the bedroom last night, ripped up the carpet and the flooring in the bathroom, it is all ruined but has to be kept for the insurers to see for the moment.
The rooms are drying out, we had planned to redecorate that room and redo the en-suite anyway, those plans will now have to be accelerated rapidly! Will have to juggle finances to make it work somehow...
Rough plan for today is to clean the kitchen and investigate more thoroughly for any water damage we might have missed (fingers crossed there is none!) huge pile of washing to do as all the drawer contents from the bedroom smell musty even though they didn’t get damp, I may take to launderette, it won’t be cheap to get it all done but will save time for me and gets it out of the way. Spare room needs to be turned in to our bedroom, office needs to be tidied so I can work tomorrow. Every other room needs to be put as straight as I can make them and I need to do a food shop as we have nothing in the fridge!!!
Just a few little jobs then! It is all worrying but it could have been worse, it’s just ‘things’ no one has been injured and it looks like the damage is repairable. Just have to try and stay positive and get on with it.
Sorry to grumble on, feel better for getting a bit of a plan together. Hugs to any who need them x0 -
(((Hugs))) BadCat - what a horrid end to your fab holiday. You sound like me, lying awake until you've got a plan sorted. Yours sounds very sensible.
Please remember that you wrote:Every other room needs to be put as straight as I can make them
I only did the minimum flying yesterday because I was out at my training day (pleased to say that I came home feeling a lot better than first thing in the morning) and today is a working day apart from about 4 hours in the afternoon when I need to take Rosie out for a walk and will then put my feet up with a cuppa - and with my phone alarm on because this evening I've got to drive to Cathedral City - so I think today's flying will be limited to S&S kitchen and bathroom. I have pruned back 4 shoots of the rampant choisya which was threatening to block the front door, to use for foliage in a vase of flowers - does that count as decluttering? :rotfl:
DH is making breakfast, then I must shower, dress and dash.
(((Hugs))) spoons and sticks all round, as needed, and lots of love to asb in particular xx0 -
Hugs to all who need them. I'll be cheering you on too badcat. Morning everyone.
Yesterday I cut the back grass so still need to try to get the front done today and car cleaning. I don't have the dogs today as we're out later for DDs birthday so I should get moving. At the moment though my head feels a little fragile.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Have watered indoor plants, refilled and cleaned water thingy in fridge, had breakfast.
I am going back to bed. Will report back later.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Thanks ionafan and jazee
DH can and will help with all that is needed, he is very good. I feel a little better now I have a plan and I have managed another sleep for an hour or so... So far, all washing sorted in to loads I can do here and a pile sorted and in the boot of the car to take to the launderette. Mainly bedding and towels...
Menu plan and shopping list done, will shop as soon as Mr T is open. Just eaten breakfast, cookies and tea! Not the healthiest option but not much in until the shop is done, we will have something a little better later on...
Next step is to tackle the lounge, there is currently a very heavy king size mattress in there that we need to somehow get out of the way, it can’t go back in the bedroom as the floor is still wet so I think I am going to have to stand it against the wall behind the sofa, not the best look but any visitors will just have to understand!!
Righto, let’s get to it, back later with progress report!0 -
Morning.
Apologies all, I've been lurking, but not posting - I will try better - I love this thread and don't want to see it disappear.
Flying this morning:
Dry washing put away
Dishwasher emptied, refilled and set going.
Wm ready to go when the last few tea towels and bits have been put in it.
Quick s&s in the bathroom.
Decluttering challenge has stalled - still struggling due to house STILL being upside down!
The decorator has gone awol. And I'm cross with her. I just want my living room and dining room decorated so I can crack on with getting everything straight. Can't even start sorting the living room carpet until I know when it can be fitted.
Minimal flying for the rest of the day. But I would like to go into the week with the house 'straight' so that's my aim.

I did complete my double HHC, but didn't have time to come back and post. The 'dailies' got done, and a deep clean of the bathroom.
Today I need to sort the kitchen, everywhere else will survive with a put things away and hoover. Sunday's for me are mostly about washing, ironing and putting away. Hope evryone has an enjoyable day.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Progress report from me...
Kitchen cleaned, no more signs of water damage thankfully, it appears to just be the ceiling affected, scrubbed down tops of cupboards and thoroughly mopped floor, washed all cupboard fronts.
Lounge now usable again and looks fine if you ignore the mattress behind the sofa!!
Hallway put back to normal
Wash load number 3 just swishing, first 2 loads are on the line, hoping that it will stay nice so it will dry
Mr T visit next, not done that yet.
Back later with next progress report!0 -
You've done well badcat.
Progress report from me is that I have just got out of bed, but still have no energy so I'm going to sit and read a while to reserve my strength as I need to be on form for DDs birthday celebrations later. Whole family will be there.
Oh, I have washed last nights and this mornings dishes.Spend less now, work less later.0
