  • Of course I contacted my HA today - and was advised that flat should be classed as 1.5 or 1 bedroom according to measurements of THAT ONE ROOM.

They will schedule an inspection in the next few weeks to confirm the measurements and we will rake it from there.

But no, I will not be updating anything on here - I will leave you to your assumptions and conspiracy theories.

So you’re telling us you were right all along and the HA completely agree and will now do everything you said you wanted them to?

Well I completely believe that, well done!

I don't agree with you. There is far to much entitlement in UK society at the moment. It starts at school. Everyone is entitled to pass everything and never fail even though people do fail a lot are the most successful.
At the moment there is a lack of personal responsibility. If you need a house you make your own arrangements you do not rely on other people to support your lifestyle.
I think there should be a poll. Something like adult child complaining bedroom is too small. As a parent do you?
A Tell them if it's so bad move out and pay for your own place.
B Complain to the council to get some money knocked off the rent.

I posted at the weekend when HA was closed to see if anyone had a similar issue and could share their experience.

Instead I got people digging through my posts about my dog and cats, making up unbelievable scenarios and assumptions - nothing to do with my question which was very simple.

It's quite likely. Since the bedroom tax started there has been much checking and changing room numbers in social housing.

I do realise that this thread is not about the bedroom tax but the same process will apply.

Don't [want to] believe this for a second
    ...............
  • There are vast amounts of large properties converted into separate homes by HAs. Many are listed buildings. In the late 70s many large Victorian houses were converted into flats. HAs now tend to prefer new builds due to lower maintenance costs but still do conversions. I know of listed houses, factories, pubs and a church which have been converted recently by a HA.

May be an England thing then.

In this neck of the woods, it's easier to knock the building down and build new as it's easier to achieve the relevant standards.

OK, so let's say the property is reclassified to something other than 2 bedroom.

Where will the occupant of the second bedroom sleep?
Reclassification won't change the dissatisfaction with that as a room.

Or are you actually asking the HA to move you into another property, one with two bedrooms that are both of what you deem acceptable size?

Assuming this room is a regular rectangle of 3m x 2m, the difference to the "legal minimum" (for other circumstances) of 6.51m2 is just 25cm extra along the short wall or 17cm along the longer.

Agreed. Having been with two different housing associations they don't agree with anything initially. They check things very thoroughly especially where money may be an issue before coming to a decision.
    It's nothing , not nothink.

The inherent problem with forum discussions such as these is...

Only the OP knows what outcome they want.

If they don't get it, they probably won't tell us.

If they do get it, they might tell us, but we might not believe them.

All comments (on most threads) rely on an element of gut reaction or trust because basically at the end of the day, anyone can say anything.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
  • So you’re telling us you were right all along and the HA completely agree and will now do everything you said you wanted them to?
They're telling you "Of course I contacted my HA today - and was advised that flat should be classed as 1.5 or 1 bedroom according to measurements of THAT ONE ROOM.
They will schedule an inspection in the next few weeks to confirm the measurements and we will [t]ake it from there."
So, nothing has been concluded, they will check the measurements and it will be taken from there. Simple enough. No need to read between the lines and re interpret what has been said.
There is no point in the op returning as so many on this thread are only interested in hearing what they want to hear.
