Small supplier Eversmart Energy stops trading - MSE News

Hi all,
My tariff with Eversmart ended around 21st August so I shopped around and moved to Yorkshire Energy (fingers crossed for no issues with this one).
On 4th Sept - Eversmart debited £88 which is their usual monthly DD.
On 5th Sept - I gave my final/opening meter readings to Yorkshire Energy.
On 6th Sept - Eversmart went bust.
On 7th Sept - I went 'live' with Yorkshire Energy.
My question, I presume Utilita will send the final bill and I am sure I will be owed a bit of money. I was wondering for energy used between my final meter readings and my 'live' date. Who or how does that get billed ?
I have cancelled my Eversmart direct debit, but today received a text from Utilita, which I assume everyone got, saying.... but not really applying to myself as such.0 -
Eversmart New bill with Utilata Energy
Just had a word with Utilita Energy with a very helpful lady on what my new tariff will be with the move. This is how it works for me. I will be charged at two rates everyday at:
Rate 1: of 29.663 p/kWh for the 1st 2KW hour of every day, then the rest of the day at
Rate 2: 17.868 p/kWh (6-7p higher than Eversmart)
This is for people transferring from Eversmart that pay monthly by direct debit.
But there is no daily charge that most suppliers seem to charge about 20p x 30 £6 a month.
For whatever reason the young lady said that a couple of kettle boils would drop me to the lower rate.
IT WONT!. Unless I am wrong, is a 2kw hour around about a 2kw kettle taking 5 mins to boil = 12 boil times per hour to get to the lower tariff minus the 20p day charge.
Think i am on the move.
Correction: My 2kw kettle just took 2 minutes exactly to boil enough for 2 large mugs of coffee. So, i would have to boil the kettle 30 times to get on the not so cheaper tariff.
Definitely, think i am on the move.0 -
For most people the Rate 1 is just a 23.59p daily standing charge in disguise.0

This is what Utilita are proposing to charge me:
Day Unit Rate 1* (pence per kWh) 50.244p
Day Unit Rate 2* (pence per kWh) 24.624p
Night Unit Rate (pence per kWh) 6.397p
I was paying 11.11 with Eversmart. and even then my bill was often over £150. eek0 -
I was in the process of switching away from Eversmart when they went into administration. I believe that Eversmart ceased trading on the 6th September.
My gas supply was transfered on the 24/08/19 and the electric supply on the 06/09/19.
In my case who's is responsible for any credit, Eversmart, my new energy provider or Utilita?0 -

Received a welcome to Utilita e-mail today - I switched yesterday and am 56p in debit.0 -
Regarding Utilita's two rates - how does that work if you don't have a smart meter?
The only way I can see it working is, if they take usage for a period of days, then work out the average use per day, then apply the tier 1/tier 2 calculation to that.
Not very accurate though. If you have a fairly high power item, say a tumble drier, that you don't use every day, then the high usage when spread over other days might mean you'd never get to the cheaper part of the tariff.0 -
Utilita, they are responsible for dealing with everything although some debits may be chased by the administrators.
.
Was I a customer of Eversmart, my new energy provider or Utilita? I think there is confusion as my final bit of the switch was on the day to Eversmarts demise i.e 6th Sept.
I have spoken to Utilita and they have no record of me, so are saying nothing to do with them!0 -
The SOLR is responsible for refunding credit balances.0

I think OFGEM should account for themselves and how they arrived at Utilita, to take over the Eversmart accounts. If you carry out comparisons they are way way down the price list, for me to the tune of around £360/yr. I'm afraid I am not prepared to sit tight and wait so have initiated a switch away from them to EDF who are marginally more expensive than my Eversmart tariff but with the comfort of not going bust. Customer service isn't great but must be 10 times better than Eversmart.0
