    Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Well good morning, it's been a very busy couple of weeks with work and family, trip away to Cardiff with work was brilliant and as well as enjoying it I also learnt a lot and have some plans for my region too.

    I've been plodding on although mostly I have been have a sort out in the house and debt payments have been sorting themselves, I do need to crack on and make some additional payments but also need to be mindful of Xmas coming up.

    What's been happening:
    * Debt is almost down to the £10k's this well be achieved by end of November
    * DD birthday next week, I already have a graphics tablet she wanted, I got it for £15 less than the site she linked it on, plus I had £15 in vouchers to go towards it. I'm also waiting for a t-shirt to arrive and will get a few bits and pieces.
    * Work is very busy and will be until about March time, we have got 16 days off over Xmas if we take 2 days leave but as I only work 4 days then I don't really need to use it then and can save it.

    To do:
    * Expenses need to be submitted tomorrow, I'm working tonight so will need to wait until that is done before I finish.
    * Received new power plug for ds drum kit so will list on FB site
    * Presents for dd birthday
    * Think about Xmas
    * Catch up on surveys

    Oh and need to source an new letter box surround, we have a really obnoxious postman - he parks his van outside our house and the other week I saw him eating a banana before driving off. I had to go out not long afterwards and saw the skin on the pavement in front of our hedge. Then the last couple of days he tried to put through items that obviously wouldn't fit and the whole surround broke (it was a bit rotten but that's not the point) and he put the front bit in the porch with the parcel!! :mad:

    Hope everyone is well, will catch up later as ds is kicking me off the computer.

    Sounds like everything is ticking away nicely! That postman should be reported; his attitude is not good enough!

  • Morning huggle, agree that the postie needs reporting.

    Have a great weekend x
  • Hmm how to start this post, it's been a busy few weeks at work and home which has seen our budget go completely out of the window! DD had a lovely birthday but it cost a lot, I have been travelling all over my work area so my fuel costs are mega this month and I won't get that until next month. Ha this month I was paid my expenses twice in error but it was snapped back the next day!

    It's a week until pay day and I have had to do a cash transfer (0%) from credit card as pennies are low and I need to get a new tyre tomorrow as well as food and fuel for the week. I also need to pay for dd climbing sessions and the tracking to be done on the car.

    I seriously don't know how we going to afford Xmas, every spare penny seems to get sucked up into the car repairs, bills and debt and I know we got into this mess ourselves but every time we take a step forward we take a million back. We have told family not to buy us presents but we still need to get something for the kids.

    I've looked over and over our budget but I can' see anything we can save on except more off the food budget, the car repair payment finish January so that will be £90 back in the coffers plus February and March there will be no water or council tax payments.

    Over the next month we have:
    * New tyre
    * Climbing sessions
    * Fuel for work
    * Work trip to Cardiff - not sure if this is definite, hopefully not!
    * Friends visiting in December, need some spending money
    * Xmas presents for kids
    * Cat to vets
    * Tracking on car

    Then January:
    2 x birthdays
    ds school trip £130

    Need a plan of action, and help! H x
  • * Debt is almost down to the £10k's this well be achieved by end of November

    That's fantastic, well done you! :T

    Definitely report the postie x
  • Afternoon, tried to broach the impending expenses with dh last night but he still sometimes just sees the doom and gloom and comes back with 'I work hard all week.. etc' he said we're coming up to the most expensive time of the year and you're telling me we're in the s**t! I tried to placate him by saying 'no it's just we need to be careful' when actually yep I don't know how we're going to get through the next month.

    Plan of action:
    * New tyre - hopefully transfer will be cleared tomorrow and then can get done in the morning before work
    * Climbing sessions - should be paid Thursday, need to pay for 2 weeks for November and then December's payments can come out then.
    * Fuel for work - have about 5 long trips to do and can walk as much as possible to clubs.
    * Work trip to Cardiff - not sure if this is definite, hopefully not! - would involve train fare if I'm going.
    * Friends visiting in December, need some spending money - to come out of pay next week.
    * Xmas presents for kids - um!
    * Cat to vets - need to look back on last visit to see roughly how much it cost.
    * Tracking on car - book in for next week.

    Then January:
    2 x birthdays
    ds school trip £130

    I will have expenses to come in next month and December will bring 2 lots of child benefit, need to meal plan but won't have time to shop tomorrow as working all day and evening. I have pushed one of my junior sessions as low in numbers, hoping an introductory offer might bring in a few extras before Xmas.

    I have sold the drum kit stc on Friday so £40 to come, if she doesn't turn up I have a parent I know who wants it.

    I think I'm going to get through Xmas and then look at a renewed plan of attack, I have dreams of walking through the Alps in the summer time and a lovely family holiday we don't want much just a bit of fun!

  • I don't like this time of year financially either, too much to do and not enough time to do it either.

    I'm not sure how old your kids are but someone told me that they read the following method towards Christmas:
    1. Something they want
    2. Something they need
    3. Something to wear
    4. Something to read

    So you just get them the four presents, rather than going overboard. Are your family likely to buy them gifts as well? I don't have children myself, so sorry if this sounds totally unreasonable/ unrealistic!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,935.00
    Total paid off - £9,665.89 (61% paid off)
  • HI another busy day yesterday I was home for about an hour before I had to go out again and had my tea at 7.30pm! But it's all good, love my work.

    Thanks Purple for listening to my constant whinging I am quite aware that we're more fortunate than most!

    Great idea twiggy, yes family will still get them presents but we have said we will cook and no presents.

    Some updates with the expenses:
    Plan of action:
    * New tyre - haven't done yet, seeing if it's ok over the next couple of days, if not will go straight away.
    * Climbing sessions - paid November then December to pay max 3 sessions.
    * Fuel for work - 4 long trips now
    * Work trip to Cardiff - yes definitely going so need to book train ticket, should be cheaper the earlier I do it, plus cashback
    * Friends visiting in December, need some spending money - to come out of pay next week.
    * Xmas presents for kids - to take twiggy's advice
    * Cat to vets - I can't find last bill so not sure how much
    * Tracking on car - booked in for next week.
    Also now dd has brought letter home about DofE, I wasn't aware there was a cost. We have always said this is the one thing we really want her and ds to do, it's £150 in total with deposit of £70 to be paid by 5th December and 2 more installments in February and April.

    Then January:
    2 x birthdays
    ds school trip £130

    I really need to decide exactly how much Xmas is going to cost and also to do my budget right up until end of the year including expected income.

    I may have a chance of some additional income, I was talking to the leisure centre staff about my dd climbing (I've known them for years) and the discussion came around to finishing my climbing instructor course and working for them running a session once a week. It pays well per hour and hopefully can see if they will pay for my course. Just trying to convinced dh that I could stay after my other session there on a Tuesday evening and get ds to restart climbing too.

    Dropping off the drum kit tomorrow, she is paying me an extra £5 for fuel which is kind, some surveys done and a few to do.

  • Morning all, going to catch up on diaries in a minute but just going to do a brain dump first, you have been warned.

    I have a headache, every area of my life is money concerns and I've had enough all I want to do is teach sport but nothing seems to work out because money is involved. Current problems (and then I will think of solutions hopefully):

    * Club - cost of facility is far more than the income we are taking in, drop off of kids coming at the moment due to Xmas things at school, the senior club have bailed us out for a bit and we have a reduction at the facility for a few months so we can go indoors somewhere else as there are no floodlights where we are. Seniors saying that we can run December at the indoor place as my good contacts have let us have it for free for the 2 sessions we need, they also said we can go there January but at the moment they can't authorise Feb and March unless we massively increase numbers. I have some ideas for some income later in the year to boost the coffers for these short periods.

    * Own business - own session currently paying for the other as very low numbers again, tried to boost but will need to do a massive promotion for the new year. Still owed nearly £300 for then insurance.

    * Own debt - still massively overspending and am so annoyed with ourselves, we simply can't continue to do this. I'm going to work out what we have for the next month and what we need to pay, then show dh which is always interesting!

    I feel so guilty about it all, and then read about the situation that other people are in an my situation doesn't even compare we are so fortunate in so many ways.

    Car is currently in the garage to sort out the tracking and why it is shuddering at speed, hoping for once that it won't cost me a bomb.

    Right plans, plans, plans.
