Good you were able to step back and reassess re the volunteering and the inheritance. Life is too short - and we all need to rebalance and find a new perspective sometimes.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Well hello there, I can't believe how long it is since I last posted!
A little update then:
*DH just finished year 2 of 3 of his degree, work is manageable but the stuff the other assistant manager gets away with is laughable and is protected by HR.
*DD is now DS, he is so much happier, we're off to pick him up from Uni next week after his first year. He's loved it.
*DS the younger is in the middle of his GCSE exams, and going to college in September.
*I'm still in the same job, trying to do a good job but Middle Management is not fun, no one is happy from either side no matter what you do. So trying to suck it up and focus on the goal (see below).
The goal:
We had a good chat a while ago about money, mortgages and future plans. We decided that we are going try and pay down our mortgage as much as possible whilst we're on a low interest rate and by the time our Early Repayment Charge ends which is January 2028.
Our mortgage currently stands at £64,832, we've been adding an additional £600-1k per month to our usual monthly £558 payment.
Once we pay of the mortgage we'll reassess our jobs and decide if we're going to stay or get something less stressful and probably less pay but without the weekend working and on-call duties.
We can then enjoy our money, do up the house and go travelling.
Outstanding debt:
We do have a small amount of outstanding debt, it's manageable and I'll be working on reducing that asap. Whilst it probably makes a bit more sense to get rid of that first, we prefer to work on the mortgage as quickly as we can.
I need to focus, update my budgets and look at extra ways we can reduce spending and increase income.
Hope you're all well, H x2 -
Lots of change. Good you have a plan that you are both working towards. Good the kids are settled.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
