  • Well it's been a lovely day, I know it's not even 7pm but we're early to bed and early risers at the minute. Dh gets up for work just after 5am so he's in bed by 8pm.

The meal prep continues to go well, used chicken from the roasted bird yesterday for the kids tea and used up more bits and pieces for ours. Last night I actually made a stock from the carcass.

Made a fruit loaf for my packed lunches using items from stores, I'll have to hide it though as there's some hungry bunnies around this house!

Painted the first coat on the wooden bit that finishes the banister, only took a few minutes. Second coat to do tomorrow.

Dd has had a tidy up and clear out of her room, lots to get rid of but a couple of things to sell and notes books that will do for scrap paper for years to come.

I have worked out that I should have enough for dd school fees by mid-March at the latest. I'm not willing the time away just glad there's a real end in sight.

See you tomorrow, another busy day at home.

  • Another week flies by, ready now for a lovely morning tomorrow going to see my old colleague as she celebrates a milestone volunteering/running event on the island. Dh and a friend are coming too.

Work has been frustrating at times due to my seniors who should know better, I have a few more things to take care of and then I can get into being able to manage and run my service more efficiently and effectively. I'm not stressed about it as I know things will improve with what I've set in place.

Dh payday on Wednesday, I've transferred money to savings pots, emergency fund and dd school.

Right time to relax for the evening, H x
  • Just a quick one but will do a proper round up later.

Pay day today, no emergency tax, another £600 to dd school fees pot. Only one more payday and it's all done!

At a conference today then a nice weekend at home.

Morning all, must get back into the habit of writing on here more often!

Well finally after 2 years of hard work, lots of night shifts, scrimping and saving. I have just paid the last school fee invoice.

2 years has gone very quickly despite it feeling never ending at times.

It was worth it to get dd where she deserved to be.

So what now, well we still have a couple of debts which we will start to throw extra funds at. We're also looking at our savings, a nice holiday next year and we've got a new carpet for the attic being fitted after Easter.

New job is going well, I've just had a week off so back to work on Monday.

Right need to update budget and debt/savings goals.

    Be back later, H x
  • Hi Huggle, great to hear from you.

Fantastic news that the school fees are no more, but as you have said worth it for your daughter.

Glad the new job is going well and you have had a relaxing week off.

    Take care xx

Thanks pwps, such a great feeling to have it behind us now.

Dh and I have had a great chat about what to do with the extra money, after 27 years we're finally being sensible!

We're keeping to the same figure that we were putting aside for school fees despite knowing we have a bit more to play with.

This will be split between the following:

Dh computer overpayments - this takes a good amount off the interest so worth doing.

Overpayment to mortgage - we are lucky to have a low rate until 2028 so need to capitalise on this now.

Build emergency fund - definitely an area we're not good at.

Save for family holiday next year.

Some additional expenses for the kids trips and save towards next house renovations.

This is a good balance for us rather than throwing everything at one thing at a time.

We have also agreed a shopping budget, and looked at the receipt afterwards to see where we can save further.

The rest of the evening will be spent making a huge shepherd's pie, my lunch for work tomorrow and chilling out before all the mayhem starts again.

    Have a good evening, H x
