  • Hi Savvy Sue

I've noticed after 13 years dealing with DS that the changes that I worry about and think will cause loads of problems seldom do and these are usually the big things like moving house. However its the small things that I often overlook as they seem insignificant to me that end up causing all sorts of stress and problems with DS. Even after all this time it still floors me cause I think 'why did I not see that coming'.

    Hi Snaggles

DS often runs into problems with teachers not following their own rules. Probably wouldn't be such a problem but he does insist on telling them of for this! Tends not to go down to well

He's had a c*ap first week back at school, got teased and beat up one day, walked out of a class another. I'm hoping for a good weekend. I live in hope!

I had to smile about your post about 'a minute' Savvy-Sue. I am (slowly) learning not to say 'in a second', 'in a minute', etc, because Ryan will actually time me, and tell me when the second or the minute is up.

Yeah I really related to that in savvysue's post, I say in a minute all the blinking time and now realise that maybe i need to change the language i use :o I like the cup of tea but it will mean a hell of a lot of tea'll be made!
Snaggles, I think your school's policy is ludicrous. Each child is different, teachers should be credited with enough intelligence to judge each child and situation and use their sanctions accordingly......

    I'll only be a minute.........

Doh, no wonder I keep on getting hassled. I need a rethink!! Why does it always take someone to point out the obvious...... xx

Hi webitha, nice to see you over here x

Not necessarily: clearly a cup of tea is not 'finished' until it is all drunk. If you regularly leave half an inch to go cold while you prepare yourself for whatever the next hurdle is, you can gain valuable time. ;)

I am afraid I have become rather devious over the years ...

Ooh, actually I have come with some good news for once - can you feel me smiling :)

We have just been to a kids party ith one of those entertainers, Ryan hates them and while the other kids sit he will sually run around and around in circles on his own in the middle of the room. Well, he started off on my lap with his hands over his ears but about half way through he started joining in and by the end Mr marvel had him up and dancing, doing actions and singing. OMG, I could not stop smiling, this was the first time ever and he was loving it I'd employ the guy but at £80 an hour I think he is a bit out of my league, LOL.

BTW he does 10 of these parties a week, 2 hours a time and on £80 an hour. Am i in the wrong business? Surely my kids could go as wlel if needed and get osme entertainment? So, for 20 hours a week plus travelling time this guy makes over £7k a month for a part time job (that has to be 4k take home at least). It is the prefect job for me....... oh, apart from the kids, LOL, I have enough of my own.

Hi folks, as I mentioned a while back, I think I am Aspergers, although nobody seems to agree with me ... Okay, I may be wrong, maybe I just have anxiety, but I have read so much that I identify with, both here and elsewhere.

When I get the chance, I will go through these pages and pick out the things that resonated with me ... I just hope I get some answers soon, and some help, as I can't work outside home, have no money, and whatever is wrong with me, it is destroying my relationship ...

    Hi Chollita,

Have you seen a doctor at all? maybe they could help you more and help you find out? I am sure that there has to be some way, have you done anything so far?

First of all big :grouphug:, secondly i don't suppose it matters if anyone agrees with you, if you see many similarities you probably are AS. I doubt anyone thinks they are and then aren't (does that make any sense?!) You probably have anxiety as well. Just believe you can do something about it, you can make your situation easier to manage and your life easier to lead. Try having a look at http://www.livinglifetothefull.com/index.php?section=login and maybe http://moodgym.anu.edu.au/moodlogin.asp.

  • Hello all, brilliant and fascinating thread - as a teacher teaching AS pupils it makes me see things from the other side which I am grateful for... also I have learnt the "in a minute" lesson in the classroom - with some pupils I definately need to be more specific which I can do and I try...

    However, please

Snaggles, I think your school's policy is ludicrous. Each child is different, teachers should be credited with enough intelligence to judge each child and situation and use their sanctions accordingly......

bear in mind that teaching is NOT about individual teacher intelligence OR about individual pupil behaviour. I like to think that I am a reasonable teacher and in the majority of times I will understand pupils.

BUT I am a person and I do not always behave perfectly...
PLUS there are teachers who are focused on the class and who would not give ANY time of day to those who behave differently and need special attention...
FINALLY it is hard to justify to 'difficult behaviour' pupils why AS or other pupils should get special treatment, these are not my words but when you have 3 AS pupils in a top set of 34 children in Maths, it is very very hard to stretch pupils, deal with behaviour and justify this to the rest of the class

I know that policies are not foolproof, but I also see why they are there.

I also know that the majority of teachers would like to stick to these but there are occasions where things escalate. And Yes I know we are adults but it is a high intensity environment...

I feel for all parents who have to deal with difficult situations at home and I hope that you get all the support you deserve. But I also hope that parents can realise it's not so black and white in schools either.

Sorry for my waffle, I hope this comes across positively. Looking forward to hearing any responses!!
