  • fallen angel if they had just 24 hours with our kids they would soon understand the issues!

As for statementing where are you in the process? has it started yet? if not then start it yourself dont bother waiting for school.

The funding doesnt all come from school budget.....LEA give the school money to cover support etc they have requested for your child.....all schools also have an SEN budget with which they are supposed to supplement the money given by LEA.....however they do tend to use it for other things.....thats what the school told me about my son.....not my problem i said....its for SEN pupils...they gave in and gave him 5 extra hours support a week..

like everything else it comes down to money....should not be the case:mad:
  • PW....no you wont have to go through it again.....they do review it annually tho........schools have to be very careful to point out that if your child is doing well it is because of the help given via the statement....otherwise they try to reduce support to save money......
  • just been on the petitions website and found the one i signed....it ended july 2007......

government has answered it...go to this site to view

  • ok :) Its all so complicated! I just get my head around one thing and then theres something new to be figured out!

You're right it shouldn't come down to money, but unfortunatly as with everything else it does. :(
  • somehow every thing down to funding, have cut the head out the equation now and just wrote letter to lea asking for a full statement fed up of trying to deal with him every time i go in i swear he can tell by my face whether i'm going to moan at him or something he just looks at me and starts walking away or other days he will speak. He really should understand the problems more though he has a disabled son who is in a special school

Its terrible that the government etc stress about parents taking more responsibility, the moment we do and fight for the best were beaten back down. Its all about what you know who you know and being strong enough to fight for what your child deserves. Its a terrible situation to be in for anyone.

So its quite ok for my kids school head teacher to earn probably in excess of 50k a year and drive a flashy sports car like she does and to strut around the school in a pretentious manner and disrepecting us parents, who just love our kids and want the best for them ...somehow the balance of funding and salaries for those who really ought to be sacked for failing our kids. One day the situation of schools failing our kids is going to crash around us big time, when in generations to come the kids that werent helped properly and failed by the education system grow into adults who cant cope and go off the rails through no fault of their own. and i will be right there saying i told you so to all those biggoted so called professionals!.

That's actually not quite right, NoahsPennilessMummy. A school isn't automatically given extra money to fund a statement issued by its LEA. Each school is given money for their SEN budget, which then goes into a big pot for all the schools in the area. Then the schools have to submit a SEN audit, which determines how much thet get back from the pot. The more kids with statements you get, the more money you get from the pot. However, the SEN audit covers kids in odd years (Year 1, Year 3, Year 5, etc). The audit from the previous year carries over the children going into the even years. So, if your child is in Year 2 and gets a statement, the money won't come out of the pot for it until he is back in the audit in Year 3. The only way a school gets the money directly from the LEA to fund a statement is when the school is a private school, or is out of the LEA's area (different county). My boy's school is out of county, thus his statement funding goes straight from my LEA to his school. They were able to employ an extra LSA due to the funding received for his statement.

  • Here's a petition to sign:

We, the undersigned, support The National Autistic Society’s Think differently about autism campaign. A lack of understanding of autism, including Asperger syndrome, too often leads to discrimination and poor outcomes for the people it affects. We call on the UK Government to join us in our efforts to raise awareness and to demonstrate a commitment to promote the rights of people living with autism by ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
