Rovers, Ryan used to (sorry...:o) hold his poo in, and would end up with terrible constipation - is that as AS thing? I just assumed it was a weird phase. Anyone elses child done this?

Duchy, I swear when I'm anxious - I don't mean to (I'm not generally a rude person :o), but I sort of can't help it. Does your son seem more anxious than usual?

Snaggles I'm just hoping the meeting is so that 'the four' can agree on some decent strategies and possibly come up with a diagnosis they all agree on??
    Do keep us posted

Hope everyone has a good day

  • Several of the kids I've worked on the AS spectrum would hold on for ages with wee and pooh. One young person would only wee once every 24 hours!

I have seen kids absolutely crave certain foods, but they're often the onces they really don't react well to. One young person reacted very very badly to cooked tomatoes/tomato ketchup , as well as marmite. I could see the 'sheen' in his eyes afterwards, and got prepared for a difficult time with the violence...

I am really sorry for what I am going to say, but here goes, Sam had a habit of pooing on video cases (stopped now) so maybe weird toilet behavior is an autistic thing.

He has started fiddling with his member in public recently, but he is coming onto that age. Anyone else found this?

Well it was the paediatrician's first inckling, depends how bad it gets i suppose but J caused a blockage in his bowel and the levels of distress were unbelievable. I know there's a link between this and selective mutism which he has and there's new evidence to link SM with aspergers so.... bit of hearsay bit of fact i guess. be interesting to see what others say.

Ryan has issues with weeing too. He gets hardly any notice that he needs to go. As soon as he realises, he is 'desperate' and gets very stressed if he can't go immediately. We always have to know where the toilets are if we go anywhere.

Because of this, he still isn't dry at night either.

Kylie, I really tried not to smile at your post, but I'm afraid a little grin did creep onto my face......video cases......bless. :)

He does a bit of 'fiddling' too, but not excessively, so I think with him it is probably just a 'boy thing'.

  • one problem Noah has is he will not use a toilet if it has a black seat.
He says they are dirty....i now know where all the shops are with white toilet seats so i can take him to them and they had to replce a black toilet seat with a white one at school before he started.

He has had a few urine infections last year which is quite unusual in boys and they send him for renal scan....nothng wrong but very constipated...he is now on lactulose twice a day probably mainly due to the fact that he drinks very little and eats loads of carbs:o
i will have a look at that info about the diet as it seems to involve mainly what Noah eats!

Some of the teenage boys on the AS spectrum get very ...interested ... in certain parts of their anatomy. We had one young man who used to try and 'use' cushions, cuddly toys, etc to the exclusion of everything else. We got a clinical psychologist in to sort out a treatment program for him - it worked quite quickly.
We had no issues with the young man having time in his own bedroom whenever he wanted, but felt that the other kids didn't need to see this in the living and dining rooms...lol.

Would this be of any help when you're out and about?
