Hi Sue, yes I take your point and it is a good idea, if you live in that sort of place.

However our town is not a touristy one, doesn't have a river. It does have a canal quarter and a beautiful Grade One listed city centre church, a theatre, an art gallery and a small manor house, but barring the manor house they do all those things anyway!

However, they could take the metro to Birmingham and do it there. Or the train to somewhere like Warwick or Stratford.

They are still hoping to come and said if they couldn't they would go to France, but that looks unlikely as well now, all the ferries are full. (Anyway, I don't think they can afford it).

J*** has relatives in Cornwall, maybe they could go there.

We'll have to wait and see.

I've never been but there is the Think Tank in Brum and also I would recommend Warwick Castle as it's fab (if they're into that sort of thing). I can recommend Stratford as it's got the river, you can hire a boat and do some rowing, have a nose round the shops and soak up the history. If they catch the Metro into Brum and then catch one of the Stratford trains from Snowhill they'd be there in no time :D

  • Hi thanks SS and BB for your help.

Their flight has been cancelled, it was first thing this morning although some are going from Birmingham this afternoon.

The have decided not to try another flight, they don't want to waste their week off hanging around, so are applying for a refund.

They have decided to visit a friend of Ben's who lives in rural Cambridgeshire, my son has not sen him for ages and J*** has not met him at all. The guy says he will put them up for a couple of nights. We were going to pay for them to have a night in a hotel in Malaga, so we have given them that money and it will go a good way towards the train fare.

So all has ended quite well, they coped with it very well really.

    Thanks again for your help.

Hi, sorry, I haven't posted on this thread for a while, but I was reminded today of how judgemental people can be, by this post on another thread:

They probably think that the likes of wheelchairs, accessable buildings and insulin are a waste of money too. I've heard the view from an ivory tower is an unspoilt vista unsullied by defective disabled people; glad I've never seen it.

Yep.., my view of an imperfect world is MUCH more interesting and I wouldn't change it for anything.

I saw that too strapped and walked away from the conversation, worse are the people that thanked them too. That poster said that children with ADHD and Autism should not be taught in mainstream schools and should go to special schools.

I once had someone grumble (ok, he was shouting) to me that my son shouldn't go to normal shoe shops and that there should be special places for autistic kids to have shoes fitted.

Or that autistic children shouldn't be allowed to play in the same places as 'normal' children.

It used to upset me but doesn't now.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Do any of you have any experience or informtion on 'bear hug vest'. My son was trialed with one yesterday at the child development centre and they said they noticed a difference in his behaviour! they are trying it out tomorrow again and then possibly sending it home. I have googled but am not getting a lot back?
Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences though!
    Thanks
