http://irlen.com/colored_light_activity.php Thanks. I found this during hunting. It says to do a test . See how your child reacts to different coloured light bulbs(no other light should be present). I am off to B&Q now! Anything is worth a go, especially with his migranes increasing.

Specific to child. Our local place in is Ayr and I'm going to arrange an appointment for my son as his behaviour is getting out of hand (another morning dragging him into school).

I'm going for a second opinion on his autism diagnosis now, as the team who saw him the first time agreed he hada lot of problems but weren't ready to diagnose (turns out hey wanted to see what problems went away and what problems developed).
Also waiting for a lot of paperwork from the DLA (school reports/doctors report) as they refused my claim on the basis that my son has very little care needs and I'm going for an appeal as younger son gets it with less needs. I've also started keeping a diary now.

Got a letter from DLA telling me to wait another 11 weeks while they review my claim (and we're already on 16 weeks)

Really though I just need to sort out this going to school business as it is really getting to me now, still waiting for psychologist to ring me and I'll be chasing him up later.

its been a while since i updated here as i went downhill after being told by the child phycologist that there was nothing wrong with my DS it was our parenting style??? It kind of hit me that maybe it was something i had done/was doing? the local nursery my DD attends asked me if they could refer Charlie to the child development centre and it only took 2 weeks before we had a phonecall and home visit. The steps they have taken have been amazing, we now have a place at the centre 2 days a week where the bus picks us up and takes us home. he loves to be there and has great fun. We are being referred to speach therapy, behavioural therapists, OCH and there is an on site doctor. The first 12 weeks are about building a plan and getting the right people involved, i feel a huge sense of relief now that someone is listening and they are helping us!
Home life is still hard as he has eventually fallen asleep after hours of screaming and hurting himself, i love him to bits but sometimes i could run away and just dream of an easy life!

Just to say if you were in the same position as me keep fighting as one day someone will listen and you will get help, it will probably some out of the blue as it did for me! thanks for reading x

Has anyone heard of/used Tap to Talk? for people/children with no verbal communication?

From what I can make out, it's an application that can be used on the DS or DSi to give children and way to communicate.
But, everything I can find when googling is American, and looks like a subscription thing of $100 a year?!?

    Aw.

My son and his girlfriend have aflight booked to Malaga on Tuesday to visit us. Obviously this may not now be possible.

My son's girlfriend is SO upset, she has been crying (because she had been looking forward to it and also because it is a change of plan). My son is far more philosophical about it (he is very interested in the volcanic dust cloud :) ) but he is worried about J*** and is desperately trying to think of something else they can do next week if they can't come here.

They are a bit stymied because neither of them drive, so they will have to go somewhere they can get to on public transport; also they have hardly any money, only the money they were going to spend here, not much, certainly not enough for a hotel or anything.

Any ideas if they are not able to visit us? They are in the MIdlands so quite easy to get anywhere else.

Not heard of it but just looked it up.
It's free for the ipod touch /iphone. There are lots of others (husband knows about these things), that are for ipod, think they may be pricey though. There are some free ones that turn type to talk but I'm guessing that's not what you want.
There's one that's called proloquo2go which looks a little less "babyish" but again it costs.

Also for the whole of April iphone aba apps are free at apple iTunes; put "aba" into the search box. They look ok, just trying to wrestle with conscience of recommending anything at all that has anything to do with ABA (and failing:(). Ok though though as the adversives aren't free this month : YAY!!

Youth hostelling? Or a 'holiday from home' - you go and pretend to be a tourist, get the open top bus tour etc.

Thanks Sue, both good ideas, although there are no open top bus tours around Wolverhampton.:rotfl::rotfl:

However, I have thought of Dudley Zoo, for the day, they can go on the bus and the admission for both of them to the Zoo, grounds and Castle is £17 (as J*** can get a disabled discount).

Or there is Birmingham Sea Life Centre, but they went there last year, so the Zoo might be better.

I'll point them in that direction if they cant't come to Spain.

I think the main thing about a 'holiday from home' is that you do the things you'd recommend to a friend visiting the area, eat out in cafes etc, go for walks along the river etc. Visit the Tourist Information Centre and see if anything takes their fancy and so on.

But the bus and zoo is good!

Hi Sue, yes I take your point and it is a good idea, if you live in that sort of place.

However our town is not a touristy one, doesn't have a river. It does have a canal quarter and a beautiful Grade One listed city centre church, a theatre, an art gallery and a small manor house, but barring the manor house they do all those things anyway!

However, they could take the metro to Birmingham and do it there. Or the train to somewhere like Warwick or Stratford.

They are still hoping to come and said if they couldn't they would go to France, but that looks unlikely as well now, all the ferries are full. (Anyway, I don't think they can afford it).

J*** has relatives in Cornwall, maybe they could go there.

We'll have to wait and see.
