Oh, I see Aspies everywhere! FIL I'm sure is one, much easier to deal with once I worked out that we needed to know what his 'rules' were and just stick to them. I've known DH since he was at school, and he was definitely one of those weird kids, but he did learn how to be sociable at University. He can still have his moments, when he doesn't know when to let something drop, and he and FIL together
Talking to one of my cousins, she reckons her brother's one, and that her dad was too. So DS1 gets it from both sides of the family: I don't know whether my brothers have it or if they're just a bit weird for other reasons. :rotfl:
As soon as I said to one of our friends that they thought DS1 had AS, he asked what it involved and then said "I'm one of those." And I said "So you are!" He said "I used to be quite miserable as a teenager because I was trying to be like everyone else. Once I worked out that I couldn't, and stopped trying, I was a lot happier."
Then another friend rang and asked if i'd heard of Asperger's, because they were wondering if one of her children was one. I told her, and thought about her DH and said "He's one too, isn't he?" And she agreed he was: DEFINITELY one of the weird kids! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
dont know if you remeber the saga of filling in renewal for DLA for ds, the forms took forever were heart breaking then the dla people lost it, i stupidly forgot to photo copy it so had to re do everthing and to be truthful it took all my willpower not to throw it in the bin, this all happened in sept not had a reply since and been putting of ringing i thought as ds was older 14 he might struggle to qualify, anyway bit the bullet today as it runs out tomoz, said i should have had a letter 1st dec he got high rate care and low mobility same as before till 2011 so well chuffed
moral of this is its woth it in the end, i think they purposely make it difficult so you dont applyproud mum of son with aspergers0 -

That sounds like me!!
My DS has severe Autism and other learning difficulties - but lots of his little habits remind me (and mum) of me as a child.
Mum says looking back, i was also probably Autistic - but back then (early 70's), I was just a 'strange', anti-social awkward, child!! I didn't mix well, or have many friends. I still don't like many people - ha ha :rotfl:
I wonder how many parents of ASD children can see it in themselves?
I don´t have children, but I can see it in myself and to a lesser degree in my mum. I´ve given up on pusuing a professional diagnosis though as none of the doctors I´ve mentioned it to have agreed with me.0 -

well it's 11.01 on Xmas Eve, I went out to dinner with all 3 kids at my friend's home, I had to leave after Small Son (the Aspie/Dyspraxic One) laid into me from the moment I arrived, for absolutely no reason
sorry to bring a sour note, but I've had it, & am looking for somewhere to disappear to ... I may be gone for some time0 -

he's 21 & a big lad, he's at a difficult developmental point ... he's 21 in years, about 11-13 in developmental terms, 5 in street sense, all the raging hormones of any young man, & the pointed, intense & focused intellect of a person with his condition ... I could go on, but I've had a couple of drinks now & need my bed
thanks for being so kind & supportive0
