cant we tell its nearly end of school year
my ds had full melt down at home on mon cos a teacher pulled him out of a lesson to tell him him as he is failing maths he has now to drop one of his options and they have chose drama to be the one
he repeatedly said no im not dropping drama
what he meant was he is not failing maths in fact its one of his better subjects and so he was not dropping drama.he is in school production for next year so likes drama now
after al ot of arguing in the corridor she checked her sheet to discover she had wrong child after all and just left him stood there, he would not go back in class cos as he finds this difficult to do
well you can imagine the response when i asked how school went today
How can they be allowed to get away with things like this
I have not been given a review date for IEP cos he is doing well but i dont think he is so will be insisting on oneproud mum of son with aspergers0 -
Thanks for the advice. The specialist HV is coming to see us next week along with the child psych so I might just mention it. Think I'll give the larger pull ups a try and have a look for the night time ones, are they as absorbent as the "normal" ones or are they just for little mistakes when the little one has forgot to go, I guess it doesn't hurt to give them a try
Hi Sam, I was in Boots lst week and noticed that Huggies Pull Ups have made a new extra absorbent night time pant, there is also the Night time bed pants made by pampers (I think) that for age 4-7 and they are quite absorbent too. HTH.0 -
Hi everyone. VERY long time no post!! We have settled well in the new house, play centre is up and toys are unpacked, life is kind of returning to normal now.
Ryan cannot get into the local school and we have an appeal going through for that DD is in so hope that gives us something under the 'sibling rule'. I found a 'back up school' 3 miles away but I had a look around the school and was introduced to their 'lovely SENCO lady'. She then turned to the receptionsist showing me around and said 'why do they always send THEM to us' and then gave mea 5 minute rant about having no money for funding and extra help and that he would not get extra help as there was no money left while I stood there mouth open and speechless (not often that happens) I decided that school is a no-no now and they kind of forced me to take the kids names off the list - but looking at it, that was for very best anyhow as they clearly did not want my son there. So, I have my appeal for the local school next week, if that fails then the kids will stay at the school they are at now - for now anyway. Long term we shall have to see how things go.
Ryan is doing OK at the moment and the move does not seem to have affected him too much. He is not liking the routine of our day as when he finishes school at 12.40 we have to hang around until 3.15 as it is not worth going home and he just hates it and asks to go home all the time. still, not long left to go now.
He has had a hearing test and that was fine.
He has his SALT coming up soon as well.
I hope everyone else is fine and that your children have got through the end of the year well. I have not caught up with the entire thread, this week is the first we I have had to sit and look at the forums. once we are sorted I will post some pics of the house and the sheer amount of work we have had to do to get the house done. now is just finishing touches such as curtain poles and the like. We even have a garden pond in!! But we are getting there!!0 -
I went to visit the first special secondary school on our list yesterday and left feeling very depressed. It was awful L The Head seemed really disinterested. When we arrived he asked ‘which child is it again’. He made a comment that they already have enough children, that my son wouldn’t get any ASD support as they have to ask for funding and he’d only be able to apply for it in April and also commented that a school should be built for children living in the area we come from. He had put me off before he showed me round and then I felt even worse. The only positive things I can see in this school are the small class sizes (8 max) and the fact that my DS has a few children from his current school going there too. My main concern is the lack of structure that I witnessed in the small 15 min slot we walked round and the attitude of some of the older children to the teaching staff. This is a BESD school so I know that there will be children different to my son there but I hoped they would have more ASD experience/knowledge. There are a lot of changes happening in this particular school but I don’t want to risk my DS going there whilst they are trying to set them up! If only he could stay at short stay!!0

Sorry to hear that Carrera
hmmm a bit quiet round here, hope that means people are maybe having a better time of it right now, or maybe cos school has broken up the school hassles have subsided.
SENCO mtg today and she would like to 'wait and see' how DS gets on in year 4 :eek:rather than get a statutory assessment!!! !!!!!!! And apparently 'kids who are under CAMHS do not tend to have involvememnt from the ed psych' !!!!!!!!!
DS has been getting himself sent out of class on purpose so that he gets sent to the teacher next door, who will be his teacher next year. He's a clever kid, thats causing the school problems they just think 'oh hes articulate and had good general knowledge so he is ok'. Pah!

Hi, I just wanted to say that I only really tend to post on this board if I have a question, not to join in the chat purely because as I am kind of new to all of this (ie my son is only just in the process of being diagnosed and getting help at school) and don't feel experienced enough to answer anyone elses queries. I do however keep up with this thread, and hope you will all forgive me:o .
It is great to hear about other children with similar traits as my son, rather than him being the "odd" one.
I have learnt so much from you all, and hope that in the future, I will know enough about AS to help others as you all have helped me, so thank you everyone xx
PS sorry if that was a bit too gushy, but I mean it!:smileyheaRachel xx0 -
Hi all
I started a thread a little while ago because the school had dropped a bombshell on us and suggested they thought DS had Aspergers.
Since then not a lot has happened but he has been for a sesion of Kinseology and he has seen the Ed Psych. He has also been to the GP and been referred to CAHMT (our version of CAHMS) and we are waiting for an appointment.
Since he had the Kinseology session he has settled down in class a bit more - he is now concentrating for a bit longer and yesterday instead of screaming and hiding under the table and notcoming out he turned to the teacher and said "I need a time out" and went and sat in the corner to calm down !! The teacher was amazed as the Kinseology really was a last dith attempt - I am taking him back in October for one more session.
A week or so before we went to Cornwall for the Kinseology Session he was seen by the Ed Phsyc - we are not sure of the outcomes of this yet but yesterday we were informed by the teacher that we needed to see him urgently and therefore we have been slotted an appointment on ?July 23rd as opposed to near Christmas which is when the next avaliable appointment was. A little worried as to why they need to see us urgently but also glad in a way that they are finally taking this seriously.
I haven't read back through the thread yet so can't leave any little messages for people but later today I will read through and try and catch up with where you are all up to.
((hugs)) to everyone.

Hi all
Have been reading through posts for a few days now, I have a 12 year old DD with high functioning Autism & SLD. Today is her last day of her first year at secondary school she seems so grown up now. A firend has just set up a forum http://mylife.myfastforum.org/index.php all welcome she already has some great information on there if you could add please do.
Keep strong and stay positive" I would not change you for the world, but I would change the world for you"
Proud to be parent of a child with Autism:D
When I see your face there's not a thing that I would change 'cause your amazing just the way you are0 -
Hi Tashja, welcome!
Don't worry about reading the whole thread before you start posting - it's HUGE! The process of getting the diagnosis is pretty stressful I think, mainly because everything seems to move so slowly. Everything is still a bit of a battle when you have a diagnosis, but it does make it slightly easier to get people to listen to you.
I've never heard of Kinseology - your results sound very positive though. If your son is realising that he needs time out, that's an enormous achievement. Ryan is only just starting to learn that - he has a 5 point scale that he uses to tell us how he is feeling, and if he gets to a 4 or a 5, he is learning to go up to his room, put the 'don't come in' sign on the door, and just relax and calm down. It seems to be working really well for him."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Sarah, that sounds very much like my son too - school think that because he SOUNDS as though he is coping, then everything must be fine, despite the fact he is showing very obvious signs of frustration and anxiety in school.
I think one of the hardest things for us is getting the school to accept that Ryan has a condition, he's not just an intelligent but disruptive boy. There are other children in his class who behave 'badly' too, so Ryan doesn't particularly stand out. It's very frustrating that because he's not 'the worst', he slips under the radar a bit.
Anyway, I'm fine thanks - how're you hun?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
