Tillycondy,
My son has always found parties a huge struggle, where most kids would love them we would just get extreme stress, bad behaviour and I'd leave feeling crestfallen and wondering why we'd bothered. He's always received plenty of invites (mainly from girls!) and because I was so worried about him missing out socially we've perservered and have finally come through the pain barrier. We have some rules, either mum or dad will always stay so he'll always have someone to play with, we usually try and take one of his friends with us so he doesn't have the panic of not knowing what to do when he arrives, we always politely refuse any sports theme party (we went to one - never ever again!) It's taken years but it's now bearable.
Kids on the autistic spectrum just seem to need to be taught how to do the things that other children do automatically. Sometimes it seems like it is never gonna happen but it clicks into place in the end.
Hope things get easier for you soon.0 -
I found some great links whilst looking at a teaching website.
There's a number of social stories:

i like the anger/agression one

www.positivelyautism.com just seems like a nice, positive, useful site.
Thought it might be of interest to some of you.;)0 -
my son has been violent at school again, and tried killing himself in front of a bus, luckily a teacher pulled him out of harms way. the drived braked hard and was severly shook up, and the teacher has cuts.
god why cant i have had normal sons, i cant cope with much more of thisenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
Oh no Shaz, how frightening - you poor thing. Thank goodness the teacher managed to pull him out of the way. I just don't know what to say hun. Is there much support available to you? I've recently been in touch with Surestart, who are going to come round and talk to me about what is available in the area. Are you in contact with any support groups etc?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

hi snaggles, my sons are two old for surestart they're nearly 13, and social services are useless.
only support we get is both kids are at special schools.
and even they are struggling, and police been involved again thats twice in two months for daniel
scariest thing for me though is him wanting to kill himself, thats so sad, dont think i could live without himenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
Shaz social services HAVE to help its in the children act of 1989 AFAIK. Just keep hassling and hassling them;)
(hugs) BTDT with my ds had emergency services out after a suicide attempt last year (he is only just 8 now) LUCKILY the ambulance guy phoned social services to refer us. he has also run out in front of vehicles, it is so scary as it is totally without warning.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

The children act. It is long. I had to quote it at SS here to get continued support.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

daniel was about the same age as your son when he first attempted suicide, and even was admitted to hospital on pychiatric grounds when he was nine.
i thought he had grown out of it, as for the last 18 months he hasn't tried it, then today right out of the blue, he waited til the bus was so close and then ran out in front of it.
social services say as he is already at a resedential special school, there is nothing they can offer.
school staff are well trained in dealing with these type kids and have trained how to restrain them, i have had no such training, just have to muddle through,
think wakefield social services are one of the worst in the country.
we have had gp letters, pychiatrist letters, crisis support team letters etc sent to social services and still nothing for daniel, its disgustingenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
thankyou sara for that link, i have saved it to my favs, and will have a good read tommorrow when i feel a little calmerenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0
