Hi CMD - Sorry I missed your diary - just caught up. Glad you had a good time in Spain and that your DH is getting a bonus. I think when work needs doing in areas you see every day - it is harder to live with isn't it. Getting our boiler done last year made our shower pressure sort out - and we improved the floors in the bathroom and en-suite. It still makes me smile now. Have you costed up what you want to get done?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Wow you're so organised with everything, I have thought about Xmas but not done anything yet all seems too much at the moment just want to tell everyone not to bother this year so we can relax and just enjoy family and food!
Good idea about waiting until after Xmas to get the bathroom done, I really hope you can get the loans sorted soon.

Sounds like you got a good deal there! It's a good feeling to get organised with presents now isn't it - makes me feel like it's just the food etc to deal with in December.
I like getting the kids bits done nice and early. Just need to focus on the in laws etc now. We are going to the in-laws for Christmas so no need for us to worry about food this year. Usually we buy a free range turkey and ham and costs €90 so that will be another saving.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Thanks HM. I'd be even more organised if I had the money but one day! A few years ago things were so bad financially that I had to leave a lot of things to the last minute as we just didn't have the cash and were right on the edge of our credit card allowance.
It is way easier to get things organised with me being off work too. It has given me a lot of headspace to get things done.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Morning all. The mortgage and other direct debits have left the account so it's looking a bit sparse. I'm waiting for the car loan to come out and then that will be me until closer to the end of the month. We have so much expenses in October.
* Coal
* Gas boiler service
* Chimney sweep
* Scouts fees x 2 for the year
* Drama fees for DD
* Car insurance deposit
* Car tax for the year
* Christmas presents
* Annual bin charges
When I'm totting them all up there I'm quite proud that none are being paid for with a credit card. The last time the credit card was used was early July for our holiday.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

I was so happy to heat about the bonus as it's been well over a year since H got anything from the company. The company are a bit chaotic but are doing well so that's good news.
It'll have been 11 years next year since we've been to Oz so well overdue a trip to see my brother. He gets back every 2yrs but it's defo our turn to go see him.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Yes - SavingH that makes so much sense. I am in that bathroom every day and it just makes me cringe. I was the same about the kitchen until we got it done up. Now it makes me smile every day and there is great pleasure in cleaning it!
I have a fair idea of the cost as we got a few quotes when we were getting the kitchen done last year. Thought we might be able to get the 2 done together but decided to do the kitchen properly rather than half heartedly do both.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Happy Friday
Used yesterday's leftover roast chicken to make a Thai red curry so that saves us €28 on the takeaway. H was going on about having one yesterday as we usually have one once a week but I said 1-2 times is more than enough and it means we really look forward to it then!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

I would love to get my kitchen done - but we want to save up for it after we are debt free so it will take a while. Well done on the curry. I wanted to eat out tonight too but DH rightly guilted me out of it and we had very tasty leftovers from the brined chicken, roasties and veg I made yesterday. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
