I have a new neighbour at my allotment that swears by using fresh cat litter as a deterrent.

Haven't tried it yet myself but anything is worth a go :D

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Im using the advanced pellets this year.
    I bought mine in wilkinsons.
Its all this rain, they love it.
We have slow worms which eat slugs, they live under the shed ,in the compost bins and under any biggish pieces of cardboard or metal lying on the ground unfortunately my cat loves the slow worms as much as the slow worms love the slugs.

I tried to not use slug pellets as I was worried by the effects on other things but we had a realy bad slug problem.I have a very old high wall around my yard garden and it used to come alive at dusk. From the tiniest holes in the mortar slugs would squeeze out,it was like a horror film.We used to go out and pick them off and one night there was over a thousand. It was horrible and literally gave me nightmares.I gave up in the end and put down the pellets and the problem has gone.It took a few months but the numbers started to dwindle and I have not seen more than a couple of slugs this year after being plaqued by them.

We too have slow worms. Along with the hedgehogs they seem (fingers crossed!) to be keeping the slugs in checks. I get a few each night in my slug traps but not too many really, especially as it has been damp recently and you'd expect them to be pretty active. No major damage to report on my seedlings either.
All I seem to hear is blah blah blah!

OK thanks everyone for your insightful guidance on this.

I popped out to Dicksons Garden Centre - just a couple of miles from my home in Bangor - and found the Growing Success Advanced slug pellets - I will be deploying them this evening - wish me luck :j I am pretty confident this will work after what everyone has said.

    Death to all slugs :rotfl:

Well we have a great big old wall around our garden too and it's unbelieveable at night. DH won't let me have chickens and our hedgehogs all seem to have died. I was saying to DH that I'd considered putting in a little tiny water feature to try and encourage the frogs. We went to move a load of stones that have been piled up around a bucket and there's loads of swimming things in it- looks like tiny baby tadpoles (I hope so) but while I'm typing this I seem to remember that mossies hatch like this don't they?
Something has to be done though because I spend a fortune on luxury slug food.

    Hi all,
i found a good idea from someone on here but i can`t find it again now.

Credit to the person who originally posted this if i ever see it again, the way to get rid of the slugs was this.

Take 2 cloves of chopped garlic and add to 2 pints of water, bring to the boil, strain and cool then top the liquid back up back up to 2 pints. Add some to water in a spray bottle to spray all around your plants.
I`ve been using it for about 4 days now and so far so good but have to keep spraying each day as we`ve had lots of rain.

    Hi there

Wasn't it two whole BULBS of garlic, not just two cloves?

Sorry, just thinking about it from memory!
