  • Hi Can anyone help,
Earlier this year someone crashed into me - my insurance legal team are still trying to claim the money back from the persons insurance (they have paid a bit but are refusing to pay the rest of the costs - we have to take them to court ) . My insurance runs out this month and they have really hiked up my premium , Can i just pay for the legal cover with them and get my insurance elsewhere ? Or do i have to just swallow it and pay well over the odds as they are still in the process of a claim ?
any help would be great !

    Hi,

I am quite suspicious about quotes I got recently from various comparison sites.

I wanted to know how much it would cost me to include a second driver, my wife. She has yet to apply for her provisional license. Surprisingly, I got several quotes that were actually cheaper than when I would be the sole driver. Even if she had a full license it would be slightly cheaper.

I have a very hard time to believe this as it doesn't make any sense to me. Can this really be true?

Halx, it is not unusual, a lot of Insurers find married males better risks than single males so they give a discount if you add your spouse as a driver
  • Hello,
I want to tell you about benefits of comparing Online Auto Insurance. I was visiting websites on internet for comparing auto insurance quotes. Then I decided to took policy from online-autoinsurance.net. I have taken policy from online-autoinsurance.net at very fair price plan. I am really happy with their services. Guys I compared websites for taking good decision. I think I have taken good decision for myself and for my car as well.

    It is pointless spamming here.

Especially pointless spamming a US company at this UK website.
  • i have been holding a full uk license for just over 18months in which i have managed to accumalate 3years NCB. !
for all those young drivers looking to insure i would advise ditching the comparising sites and find alternatives companys that focus on young drivers. yes these still will be expensive but there is still money to be saved.

i just recently brought a 59plate 1.3 and had my renewal come through at £1700 with 3years NCB, and on the usual comparison sites i got given quotes £2000+
so therefore i decided to go through aviva from their direct site after seeing a advert claiming 12months cover for the price of 10.
    got a quote of £991 <--- amazing saving :)
    £3500 wedding plan for basic pay worker. £350 + £200 + £1700

Get them to itemise the £105 - if it is in line with their ts + cs regarding cancellation, then nothing you can do, but if they are applying any charges they are not entitled to ask them to issue a new invoice. (Without knowing your annual premium, this does sound in the ball park)

My question here is why is the vehicle insurance sector allowed to establish T&C's that penailse customers when cancellation is invoked? T&C's is mandatory and has to be agreed, however, the consumer has no entilement to dispute or change T&C's - so agreement is not the appropriate term - 'Gun to your head' is more like it.
Other insurance sectors (e.g. injury, life, property) do not make these unethical cancellation charges!
We see the 'Banks' have been called to order over inappropriate banking charges - we can hope that some day vehicle insurers will get their comeuppance. - We could start new quest!?

You can choose which insurer you transact with. Cancellation scales and charges vary and there are a few providers of specific short-term cover. Most other consumer contracts which are specified to run for a certain period - mobile phones, satellite TV - contain penalties for early cancellation, it is not unique to the insurance market.
Other insurance sectors (e.g. injury, life, property) do not make these unethical cancellation charges!

I think you will find that consumer property insurance contracts do usually contain cancellation clauses which are similar to those found in motor insurance contracts. The other sectors you mention are not my specialty but clearly they are not transacted in the same way as motor insurance and so to expect that they will show the same pricing structures would be quite foolish.

The case over bank charges has yet to be determined and it is predicated on an entirely different premise - that penalties for a breach of contract cannot be disproportionate to the cost which resulted from the breach. Insurance cancellation scales and charges are not penalties for breach of contract.
  • Just wanted to warn others about taking out Swinton insurance. My wife took out a policy - changed the usage from Social & Commuting to Business Use and incurred a £25 fee. She then incurred another £25 admin fee when she changed cars. She wanted to cancel the policy but they wanted another £50 for that! Do other insurers charge 'unfair' fees and to this scale?

Yes, it's often the case that these charges are imposed for any changes you make to the policy. sometimes it can be really expensive to cancel a policy, particularly if you need to cancel early on in the life of the policy.
