Your present NCB can only be used on one car. You could swap your car over for your son's on your policy, and have him added to your policy as the named main driver. This would be the cheapest option, as you will get maximum NCD off the high premium, but of course may mean the loss of your NCD by the inexperienced driver!

If you go down this route, you may be able to get an introductory discount off the new policy you will need for your car.

thanks for your help, if I do that though what about my car because I will be driving mine and he will be driving his so obviously I need mine to be insured as well? Sorry if i appear a bit dim but I really am confused(.com)

I don't believe you can claim NCD on more than one car. If he is going to be the main driver you will need to state that when applying for insurance.
  • I wasnt really asking about my NCD just whether I should do the insurance in my name or add myself as named driver or do it in his name or add him and his car to my insurance. I just want the cheapest option really

The cheapest option would be for you to put both car policies in your name, and use the 9 years NCB on your son's car policy with him as a named driver (stating that he is the main driver, otherwise it is fronting which is illegal).

However, although this is the cheapest option, bare in mind that you will lose 2 years NCB should your son have an accident which is quite likely given his age group and lack of driving experience.

My advice would be to leave your insurance as is and get your son to take Pass Plus lesson asap as that can save your son up to 30% off a policy in his name.

    Hi,

I have been trying to get my car insurance down but its still running at £200 a year fully comp.

Even if I can get cash back would be lucky to get insurance for £150

How can I get it lower than £100 a year? I have no points, no convictions, been driving for 20 years.

    Confused?

Named driver do not earn no claims discount on the whole. Depending on the insurance company, you may be have earned "named driver no claims discount" but usually that would only apply if you renewed with the same insurance company. Some insurance companies will take named driver no claims discount into account so it is worth asking over the phone when applying.

Having just used the GoCompare site for a car insurance quote I noted at the end it was stated that the top two quotes would contact me by phone, e-mail or text reference, the quote and other offers . There was a option to cancel this service by " clicking here " , however despite clicking nothing was happening and in order to progress to the quotes I eventually gave up . Problem with the site or a method of giving contact details out despite attempts to opt out ??
  • Can someone give me an idea of how much 3rd party car insurance costs in HK? I am sure it depends on make of car and driving record, but any approximation would help. can anyone help me out?

My daughter is 17 and took out 3rd party fire and theft on a 1997 Corsa with Quinn Insurance 3 months ago with me (Dad) as named driver. It cost us £420. My daughter has just passed her Driving Test and when we told Quinn they said premium would now go up to £791. They said it was because my daughter wasnt now accompanied by an experienced driver and would be on her own. I asked why they didnt tell us that when we took out the policy that it would go up. I was told it doesnt always go up but depends on various factors (which they didnt elaborate on ).

Can anyone advise if this is the norm please
