Hey gang,
Any thoughts on a short term car insurance policy? Leaving the country for 7 months in November, but the policy is up for renewal this month. I'm with swiftcover - is it worth asking them to do a deal for the next 5 months or is there anyone that someone out there could recommend that doesn't do annual policies...? Also of note, I'm 22 so none of these 24 and over types will do the trick...
Cheers

Recently I received a letter stating my car was involved in a collision, which was reported to the police and I wasn't in the country at the time. Now the matter has been resolved, where do I stand with my car insurance company? I was thinking of using the freedom of Info Act to see what info they have of me on record regarding a blame/fault (if) on my record because come renewal time, I do not want to have an issue with premium, etc.
What do you think?
Thank you0 -
Why don't you just ring them up and ask, they will normally happily tell you what they have on their file eg any payments etc0

The delights of Swift / Ecare...
You could email them, and email them again and then again and eventually they may give you the information0 -
Just wanted to share my car insurance experience. I am a 23 year old male with one year's no-claims but been a named driver since I was 18.
Last month I received a renewal notice from Tesco Value car insurance who quoted me £500 (£40 less than last year). I did all the comparison sites but the cheapest quote I got was from actually from Direct Line which was £440, so I phoned Tesco up and asked if they would beat it and they said they would and brought my renewal down to £430. They then deducted another £20 when I added my sister to the policy (both my parents have 6 points). I told them that's great and I would like to have it in writing. They said they couldn't do that so I said I don't like making deals without having it in writing first so eventually managed to persuade them to send me a new renewal notice with lowered price. When that arrived, I promptly phoned First Direct up who offer to beat renewals by a further 10% meaning my car insurance is now £370 and comes with a smaller compulsary excess and is much more comprehensive than my previous Tesco Value car insurance
On top of that, Autonet Insurance sent me a £5 check for not being able to beat my cheapest quote!
I'd be interested to know how much insurance is costing other drivers aged 21-24... I look forward to paying about £200 when I get my 5 years no claims :rolleyes:0 -

Well you'll be pleased to know that you could get your car insurance even cheaper than £200. I got mine renewed in January, checked all the comparison sites etc. Decided on More Than at £180 - fully comp, protected no claims for life, courtsey car etc etc. Then through Quidco got £68. So works out to be under £10 a monthand I'm only 23

my 18 yr old daughter went fully comp with Bell in March. she had a minor bump that she was blamed for. one month later her car was written off by a lunatic in a car park.
she was not at fault. her policy cost over 2 grand on direct debit and had been running for only 3 months. as a result she had to pay up the the policy in full. She was promised a refund on the 9 months cover she had paid for or a substantial discount on her next car.Guess what, when she asked for a quote they refused to give her one and when she asked for the refund they said she is not entitled to one. Reason given by Bell..
because there are two claims on the policy. I cannot understand it.0 -
Im buying a small car for my son when he turns 18 in a few months. he is just going through his test now. It appears that the cheapest TPFT policy i can get on a cheap runaround car is about £2000. Any suggestions on how I can get him on the road cheaper?
I don't have no claims bonus as I've been driving company cars for 18years and don't own a car.
Any help appreciated
Get him a bike! Only kidding, have you thought of pass plus? It may be expensive for the lessons but the discount on the plicy should be worth it. I found this article helpful:
