I think it's an SP30,exceeding the statutory speed limit, it shouldn't make much difference at all to your quote. It didn't mine!

I just checked on my insurance and it definitely is an SP30!

Hi im in my second year of driving now and my first year went with no hitches... no bumps or points. Im a 20 Year old male (21 in august). In my first year i paid £1600 for a S reg clio which i only paid 700 pound for.

Being my second year i expected a huge decrease especially since buying a newer car, better safety features etc. However my premium is still going to be £1060(TPFT) at least (according to price comparison sites). Is this normal? I have a 05 plate ford fiesta flame now and expected in the region of £800. Can anybody recommend a good insurer who doesnt use Price comparison sites. Or am i paying over the odds if i go through with the £1060 quote.

Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks
  • Hi,

I'm just about to finish uni so I need some cheap wheels to run around in to get to work until I've got some money. I'm probably getting a V-reg Nissan Almera on Monday.

The best quote I've had is £655 3rd-P F&T from Endsleigh through the Tesco Compare website. For some reason it's higher on a direct quote (£675) but I could get £40 off using a cashback website.

They're either going to ring me asking if I want the quote, or I'm going to ring them, either way I'm going to try and haggle them. Am I right in thinking that I should mention the cashback thing, as they would want the money straight to them, so they may give me a lower price? Also, if I haggle, how much can I realistically expect to get off them?

    Cheers guys.

Try running the quote through on Comprehensive cover as its often cheaper than TPF&T.

You could also try opting for a large voluntary excess as with most companies you only pay the excess if you claim for repairs / write off on your OWN car for ACCIDENT DAMAGE. (Check with the company how they impose the excess as some of the cheap and cheerful Insurers charge the excess for other claims)
  • Cheers for the help, fully comp is more expensive though.

Another thing I was thinking about, if I'm getting the car Monday, I'm going to apply as a student, but I'm not going to be a student for much longer. After I graduate, will I have to tell them that I'm no longer a student? Will this bump the price up?

    Cheers

I currently have a Traders Policy which works out at almost £50 per month, I dont need that type of insurance anymore and I cannot afford that kind of money every month.

I also had my drink laced at Christmas time and was at court in May about it, I was found to be telling the truth but the mag's still gave me 8 points and £100 fine, (my solicitor says it becasue he thinks they are trying to tell me to take more care!) so, my driving licenc says DR10 and underneath it states NO DISQUALIFICATION - SPECIAL REASONS - LACED DRINKS..

So I have done an online quote and the best quote is £234. With the AA.

Will I pay a charge to the ins company I have the traders with? Do I ring and tell them what I am doing?
Do I call AA and explain my DR10?

    Thanks x

Im buying a small car for my son when he turns 18 in a few months. he is just going through his test now. It appears that the cheapest TPFT policy i can get on a cheap runaround car is about £2000. Any suggestions on how I can get him on the road cheaper?

I don't have no claims bonus as I've been driving company cars for 18years and don't own a car.

    Any help appreciated

Please check with the AA before you go on cover as most companies do not accept no claims bonus from a traders policy. If you ring an check first you may be able to get them to agree to it, if you do not check and then just send the proof in they may not accept it and send you a big bill. (Take the persons name and the date / time you called).

I'm guessing your motortrade policy is with Tradex, Chaucer, MMA, Service or another Insurer of that stamp. They tend to have very big cancellation charges, however if you are not a motor trader any more their policy is not suitable so they may waive the cancellation penalty or some of it. Give them a ring and advise them you are no longer trading and ask if they will waive the cancellation penalty.
