She should have informed them when completing the proposal, and is lucky they are giving her this chance to put matters right. She could have had an accident, wanted to claim and then been told her insurance was invalid (due to the non disclosure), and left to pay the claim herself, and no insurance cover either.

It is part of the conditions of your policy (which you agreed to when buying the policy) that you inbform your insurer of every incident (whether or not a claim was made or whose fault it was).

Very good article but not all aspects are revealed but anyway I found out a lot of useful info about insurance
  • Hi, Does anyone know what the best way is to get cheap car insurance for my son who is going to Uni this year, not taking his car with him but will want to use it during the holidays? As he is young the premiums are high so preferably don't want to cover him for the whole year when the car is standing on the driveway.
    Thank you.
  • I'm using moneysupermarket.com to get a quote and it asks 'how many seats?' I have a bog standard 1994 Golf so it has one wide seat in the back - or does that count as two seats? or three?! i want to answer to question honestly whilst minimising my premium.

I guess you would go by the number of seatbelt sets that are provided in the back.

When they ask how many seats, they are referring to how many people the car seats, so in your case it would be probably be 5. Some cars only seat 4 such as Ford Ka's and Mini Coopers but I'm not sure about golfs. I think what they're after is if the car has been modified as boy racers often remove the rear seats to reduce weight.

FlyingFlea is correctm they're looking for information on how many people fit into your car, ie. in the event of an accident how many people could be in danger.

I have 7 years no claims bonus, 5 of them built up from driving a car up to 2006. I have had my van for 2 years & this is my third years insurance which has 5 months to run. I want to go back to a car & all the insurance companies i have contacted, including my present one (the post office), have refused to to allow me any no claims bonus, which means i have to start from scratch, resulting in a premium cost of 636 pounds fully comp or 675 pounds third party only.Is there anyone that can help me reduce this, as i find thier attitude obcene & insulting. Thanks.

Speak to a local broker, they should be able to help you with the company car no claims bonus

If your car policy ran out under three years ago then Norwich Union will accept the your no claims bonus from the car providing you can get proof of it.
  • I organised car insurance with IGO4. Unfortunately, I changed my car within 14 days of takingout the insurance. I asked for a new quote for the different car. It was too high so I said I wouldn't continue with them and as I was within the 14 days cooling off period I expected to get my annual premium back. They have deducted £25 admin charge plus 2 days of cover for original car. (No claim was made) Is this legal? Other car insurance refund the full premium, I only read about the charge when I received the policy documents so you can't know until you are signed up. I thought that was the point of a cooling off period that you could get your money back. Is there any point in pursuing this?
