Your call - but a fault claim would almost certainly mean it costing more than £40 in lost discount. Do some "virtual" quotes on line to see the difference between 3 years NCD and 5 years to see if it is worth it.

Personally I find the comparisons websites no where near as good as going straight to quidco and searching by ighest amount. Even if the insurer isn't the lowest, the sheer size of the cashback compared to the policy cost makes soemthing like at least a 40% discount, which the comparison websites simply can't compete.

Have a question - just been getting quotes and noticed some are asking if you ave NCD of more than 5 yrs. THought 5yrs was the maximum? Also, my current insurer see's it as the maximum even though I have had NC for longer - so they only list 5yrs (max). Just wondering if this would effect my quote?
  • Great article. Can't help but think there may be some other ways to cut the costs though, as it's obviosly been a few years since this was written. It would be good to get an update - for a start Confused.com website is now very different to what it was, and tesco do their own comparison website (TescoCompare.com) - is it any good?

My last car insurance I bought through Tiger.co.uk which actually has a good panel of insurers for cars and bikes. I like it but is it any better?
  • comparison sites are really useful. actually voting system is very usefull. you can see which firm is more trustfull.

They come and go. Maybe to do with their advertising budget?

Try it with each in case it makes a difference to the policy cost
