Car Insurance Article Discussion

Hi there. I'm in the process of buying my first car in England. I previously had a car and insurance in South Africa for over a year, Dec 2005-Jan 2007, during which I had no claims. Is this going to count when I obtain my insurance in England? Or do I start anew, i.e. with 0 years no-claims bonus?0
-
It will count with a lot of companies providing your can obtain written confirmation in English stating how long you were insured for and whether or not you had any claims.
You could try Norwich Union (Either direct or through a broker) or go to a local broker who will know which Insurers accept it0 -
I've been through all the comparison websites and found the cheapest providers are within a few quid of each other. However, the cheapest would be More Than through Quidco for their £75 cash back, followed by Endsleigh also through Quidco offering £45 cash back. A third choice is Endsleigh going through Moneyexpert.com who offer £35, which I believe is a discount rather than cash back.
There is a warning on Quidcos' website about quotes which have originally been obtained through other affiliates sites not being eligible for cash back. In Martin's article he mentions that you should clear the cookies from your computer before going through the cash back websites so it tracks the order OK.
I'm a bit concerned that having registered with the comparison sites that just clearing the cookies is n't going to make any difference and I will be refused the cashback.
Is there anyone out there who has done the same and received the cashback or should I just go for the guaranteed £35 discount through Moneyexpert.com, assuming there is n't an issue with them?

Quidco (and the other commision sharing caqshback sites) always say that the cashback is never guaranteed.
So it's always a bit of a gamble - though lots get the money, otherwise there wouldn't be any sites still going.
You are gambling the £35 for definite against £75 possible.
It's just how much of a gambler are you?0 -
I agree with Quentin, there is a thread on MSE that started today on Quidco which might help.

Like Quentin said its a bit of a gamble as to whether you will get it or not0 -

Bought insurance via CTM.com. the above is the broker who try to increase my cost of insurance because my no claims proof misses one date - they send lots of vague e mails and when you reply they ignore it and send hard copy letters which in my case want to increase my annual insurance from £320 to £900pa. I am 41 with 20 years hassle free driving trying to insure a 1.8 FSI Audi. When making tele contact with QuoteMart its clear that they have outsourced thier 'customer service' dept a far and distant land.....0

My car insurance is due for renewal so I did the MSE thing and trawled the comparison websites. Got quotes ranging from £250 to over £1000 . Decided I was going with Hastings Direct at £264, through cashback-rewards for an additional £60 cashback. I was chuffed with this as my renewal quote was over £400. However, when I tried to actually buy the policy Hastings website was down - PHEW!
I got a phone call yesterday from a company called Call Connect and they've been really on the case for me. They took all my details, then put me through to brokers who'd come up on their system (so probably a bit like Confused, et al but on the phone). Anyway I was cynical cos I thought nothing would beat the quote I got online - £264 for fully comp, business use, with £250 excess, and then the £60 cashback. And it didn't at first.
Anyway, I was very impressed with their service. They called me back every time I finished with one broker to get feedback and put me through to the next one. Eventually got a quote for £230 :T and that also includes courtesy car, legal cover, only £100 excess and protected ncb! Nearest online quote with all that was over £300! So you don't always get the best price online.0 -
I asked the insurance company if we could change from fully comp to third party, fire & theft. The fully comp is, per year, more than the book value of the car! The company agreed that I could change down but the difference in premium was about £1.20 p.c.m.! I queried this because if I was a new customer, the quote given by this company was just under £20.00p.c.m.. It appears tha I can only really change at renewal not mid-term.Is this right or can I just go elsewhere?0
