  • Can anyone help me on this

I've been with Diamond for 3years now and had a minor collision when a pedestrian ran out in front of my car back in June by my daughter's nursery/school, Police attended and gave a statement and I was informed by the nursery manager that this person was taken to hospital but discharged same day with minor injuries. I did not even think to call the insurance as there was no car involved.

Back in September, I got a call from my insurers that this person is now making a personal injuries claim on me which was like   as they informed me that it would mean my 3year no claims bonus would become zip AGAIN!

now my insurance is due again on Christmas day and now they're saying they can't renew me because i fail to inform them within 48hours of the accident and they might now be liable for a potential large claim against them! What a great christmas present!

Help, what do i now do!

You may find that as a result of this you have difficulty getting another company to take you on - you have to declare to new companies that you have been refused insurance.

You must always report any incident you are involved in, regardless of whether a claim is being made.
  • That's funny, i've done a quote on moneysupermarket and Diamond have given me a quote! So why is that?!

Hi, Can anyone recommend the best insurance co. for my son a 17 yr old first time driver. Best quote I could find was for kwik fit at £1300 and that was putting him down as a named driver on third party, fire and theft. Thanks for any help

Is the car worth much? I wouldn't go third party if he's likely to be driving it much and it's worth a lot as if he did have an accident then you'd then get nothing back. What sort of insurance group is the car you're insuring him on? If it's a high insurance group it might be worth getting an old low insurance group car instead that could be insured third party.

Have you gone through all the different search engines/brokers and the providers not covered by any of them?

  • Hi, just wanted to share some good news and to say thanks to MSE for the advice about shopping around for car insurance. To be honest I am a bit lazy about it mainly because my renewal is always due early Jan and it means spending time on car insurance over Christmas which seemed a bit dull! HOWEVER.... I decided to follow all the advice here and used the price comparison sites etc. In addition, I signed up with cash back site.

So, the amazing thing is that my original insurance quote was £434. With a £45 cash back saving, I have now been able to reduce that to £170 which includes fully comp, guaranteed hire car, legal expenses, and breakdown cover. A saving of £264!! I am so chuffed just wished I had done this before. Thank you!
  • I have always shopped around when my insurance comes up for renewal, but am a fairly recent convert to cashback sites. My car insurance renewal notice was for £473 and even when I phoned the insurer armed with quotes from price comparison sites, they said they could not reduce it at all. I have therefore just taken out a policy with a new insurer for £379 plus £42.50 cash back (showing as pending, so not yet 100% certain) plus a voucher for a free MOT.

    Thanks MSE! :T

Hi all. Been a lurker for some time on this thread and although I may have missed this, I can't find it anywhere now...been a stalwart supporter of shopping around and have been using the comparison and cashback sites for 3 yrs now to get car insurance.

Just wondering as a general wonderment (??!!) really if ppl have noticed car insurance prices increasing as a general rule of thumb or if an additional years ncb but adding protected ncb to a policy bumps it up significantly....got fully comp last year for £309 excluding cashback (£220 inc c/b) but this year, with an extra years ncb (4 in total now), cheapest i'm finding is £304 (£260 inc c/b). Nothing at all has changed other than extra years ncb and adding protection on. Does it make this much difference or is it partly to do with sign of the times???

I ask because each year up to now, as ncb has increased, I've noticed a decent drop in prices I can get but doesn;t seem to be case this year. Thanks!

Regarding using comparison sites, and then getting cashback elsewhere, Martin says just remove cookies and it'll be OK.

The comparison sites clearly want the commission for themselves and I'm concerned that if you use your correct details on the comparison site, you risk not getting the cashback if you then go through a cashback site

    Any thoughts?
