:j Got my renewal from elephant other day £588 (Accident 1 1/2 Yrs ago).
Went on confused got a quote lowest £339 Co-op pay up front. Phoned elephant lovely girl nice accent, believe it or not I asked where she came from and she says she works in the Canadian call centre, good start!!! anyway explained quote from elephant and about the quotes from Confused.com, yes she says I can drop you immediately down to £488, getting somewhere I thought, however I said still to expensive so she ran thru a couple of points and took of my extra hire car for write off only, garage cover etc which I dont need, and said all in all she can get it to £457; a bit of banter about credit crunch and how it is a buyers market etc so she then said to hold so she could spk with her manager. After that she said that a final quote with Direct Debit would be £397, still not happy I said you still cant beat online quotes and how I dont want to change provider as it a hassle etc etc then she says I can give it to you cheaper if you pay up front so I said how much and she quotes £308, so paid it, sorted.
Points to note
1. I went on the phone with a quote from them sitting at £588 having had an accident 18 mnths ago and claimed £1500 & lost 1 yr NCB.
2. Immediately my quote dropped to £488.
3. Basic haggle ref online price and took of added extras £457
4. Manager involvement £397
5. Finally if I pay up front £308
A saving of £280 in a matter of 10 mins max.:rotfl:
Usually I would not have pushed it as far however after reading Martins emails, and your feedback on here it just proves what a rip off the system can be, normally I would have accepted that first quote and paid, shocking i wonder how many others feel ripped off at times.:T0 -
I agree with Digitig's earlier comments about not neccessarily choosing the cheapest car cover but getting the right policy (at the right price obviously). I too have had difficulty in the past with insurance companies (direct line in particular), who seem to do anything they can to get out of paying a claim. I wondered if anyone else has had any good/bad experiences with specific companies? It would be good to know who to avoid and who to take seriously in the future!!

P.S. Do any of the comparison sites offer feedback on this kind of thing?
I don't know the answer to your question - but I would like to add I also think it would be a good idea to have this facility. I did the price comparison and went for the cheapest insurace that included a courteousy car, which is where I made my first mistake.
I insured with 'Kwik Fit' or so I thought - when I went to make a claim I got passed through to several companies such as charinthia, and HSBC - I am confused who I am actually insured with. It's been a week and I have chased up the guaranteed courteousy car and got nowhere!! the line is now coming up as engaged when I phone. The garage have given their quote to the insurance company and awaiting a decision - in the meantime I have no car! Also the excesses were a shocker! £500 and for some reason they are trying to charge another £100 on top of that - in fact that is the only correspondence I have had from them is in relation to their excesses!
I really would urge everyone to not necessarily go for the cheapest because it doesnt pay off when you need to use the insurance company, in fact it's costing me far more! I always thought Kwik Fit were dodgy with their repairs - theyre just as bad with their insurance - not recommended at all0 -

Kwik-Fit are an intermediary - they place your risk with an insurer chosen from their panel of insurers. Corinthian are an insurer which is owned by HSBC (it used to be a Lloyd's syndicate).
I wholeheartedly agree that too many consumers make their insurance purchasing decision solely based on price rather than considering the quality of cover. Sadly it's not especially easy for consumers to access real information in this regard, other than the occasional 'Which?' report and such like.0 -
Am looking for cheapest car insurance for my son who is in the army. Someone said that if you put in the job as the trade he is doing, eg mechanic or skilled rather than soldier it is cheaper. Does this seem reasonable job tweaking?
Also he was told to put it down that the car is mainly parked in a driveway rather than on an army base and to under exaggerate the mileage - by about half.
Hope someone can advise. Thanks(Angus is my dog, not me ...)0 -
Hi , i was hoping someone could help me with some info, a friend of mine is a named driver on his mums insurance as his premiums was astronomical.
she was on somebody elses traders policy so never needed a policy of her own which is why she took this policy out for her son
she is no longer on the traders policy and needs a policy of her own to cover her on her own car,
so the question is could she open another policy in her name for her car while she stil has a policy on another car

I've just passed my driving test. I was looking for a cheap insurance for 6-8 year old car (Honda Accord or Toyota Avensis) and the best quote I got was around £1000.
Is it the normal price for a new driver? If not, how much can I expect to pay? Any ideas?

Was this from an online quotation? I was wondering how could an online quotation make a mistake if it's computer-based. However, when I took out insurance with MoreThan I carefully read through the documents sent in the post, and noticed that they didn't mention a speeding fine with 3 points from 4 years ago. I remember telling them when I filled in the form online. However, when I rang they said they had no record of that, and I had to pay an extra £20. Unfortunately, there's no way of going back to check what I had said earlier on the online form. From now on, I would advise everyone to print screen shots of every page of an online form, to be able to prove that all relevant information has already been disclosed.0 -
HELP!
Really don't know what to do about More Than Insurance company who seem to be completely unprofessional! My fiance received a letter out of the blue saying his insurance was suspended as they wanted proof of his car registration address/document and proof of his home address. The Insurance company said they wanted this faxed as soon as possible. We faxed off this information with a cover letter the next day! 1 week later after calling the MoreThan office every day, we heard nothing still. My finance is Polish, his English is very good, but somehow lots of companies really pull a fast one when they hear someone is ESL and has a non-English accent. We sent the information 3 weeks ago now and last week he received a letter stating they had not received his information( although I faxed his information for him as they are only open 9pm to 5pm when he's at work!) I called and confirmed with the office they indeed received our first fax. The letter he received over a week ago stated if he did not send his bank information details now they would cancel is insurance and he would suffer serious consequences! I called my own insurance company RAC and explained the situation to them. They told me me this was highly unusual an insurance company to not provide an explaination on why they needed the documents and if they did suspect fraud ( which is not the case for him at all) they would not suspend the insurance like that. Something sounds fishy to us!. For 3 weeks he has had no car, has a hard time getting to work, the battery on his car is dead which and he's incurring expenses all the time as cannot use his car for work and college one day a week at night. Its been 3 weeks now, when he calls More Than they simplysay to him every single time ' Oh the person dealing with your case hasn't got to it yet' Can someone please give us some advice on what to do. I think he should search for another insurance company and cancel his insurance. He has sent and has all the legal documents and proof of his home address and car registration so why is it taking so so long plus they are not telling him why they've suspended his insurance for no reason, we have had no explaination! What is his legal status on this? Help please. Thanks0 -
hi quick update on more than
i transfered my insurance approx 3 weeks ago to my new car. Initially i was told i had to pay an extra £40, i argued the toss, lost and paid up. received my documents and they had got the mileage wrong, they hadnt put my partners SP30 on it, and they had the old car details with the new car reg.
telephoned them, explained, i was assured that it would be corrected and i would receive documents in post, but i needed to pay another £25 ontop of the £40. I refused... said i would cancel.
They agreed to wavie the £25, changed the policy and off we went, received policy, and the same things were wrong. repeated the above, and got the same reply.
this happened another 4 times.... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i am so irritated....
