We then removed Legal cover, and C/C Option, dropping it another £75. ( any non fault incidents can be dealt with on a tp bases anyway )

Personally, I wouldn't remove legal cover, for the extra £20 or so that it is. It's much easier to have a solicitor deal with all the hassle and the paperwork and have them fight your corner if you were involved an accident. The third party or their insurers will probably not admit liability, and if the accident was a coplicated one, for example a traffic light violation, with no witnesses, then it could be a tiresome battle to prove who was at fault. if you've sustained injuries you really won't want all the extra hassle.

sry think I'm posting this in the wrong place but don't know where to place it.I have a 17yr old who just bought a car but can not get insurance companies to take payments by direct debit because of his age does any one know of any companies that might let him
A 17 year old wanting insurance to drive a car!! You HAVE to be joking. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Why? What on earth does a 17 year old want (?) a car for? Personally I wouldn't insure anybody under 25 for car insurance and that's based on 35 years as an insurance broker. Not all, but most, young lads are an accident just waiting to happen. Last week I had, waiting in my office 3 lads, all under 20, who wanted advice about a recent car accident which they had had. Two of which were car 'right-offs'. I was recently advised by a number of the Insurance Companies that i deal with that they now refuse to insure males under 25 for motor vehicular insurance. About time too.

Hi all, i'm a newbie fo please be gentle!
I just want to know if anyone has had the same experience with more than & quidco that i have.
Got a quote online for the other half - without going through quidco - £280
Then went through quidco.. putting in the same details and got £323
I tried a different computer & browser & got slightly different prices but still the price bump when clicking through quidco. We still will save on the £65 cash back but though it takes the mickey when more than bump the price up for the reference click.
Do all the insurance companies do this???
    So, question is

There are 2 companies that i'm aware of that will allow a 17 yr old to pay via DD's. Both Endsleigh and Swinton will do this for you but only face toface in their branches, and he must have an adult who will act as a guarantee. Remember, paying monthly is a form of credit and so is unavailable to under 18's. Good luck with the search.

Be aware of the conseqeunces of providing your personal details to the sites Martin recommends as search engines for car insurance, particularly www.confused.com and www.comparethemarket.com.

Since using both sites in the last 48 hours I have had unsolicited calls to both my home and mobile tel numbers from insurance companies.

I did not give either site permission to disclose my details, in fact I made a point of checking all of the appropriate boxes to ensure I did get any unsolicited emails or calls.

Will certainly put me off using either of these sites again.

Have you ever considered how these comparison sites make their money?! All the major insurance comparison sites tell you in there terms and conditions that the top 2 or 3 insurers may contact you by phone. As far as i'm aware you can't opt out of these calls.

However - You can manage them. When I do my online comparison I always put the renewel date as the SAME day i'm doing the quotes. Insurance companies don't tend to ring you the day after you need insurance! Of course, I still received calls that day - but if you spend a few minutes listening to them, you'll often find that they can get the quote a bit cheaper. Last time I managed to get my legal cover free of charge (saving of around £25) just because I agreed to set up on the phone.

One to watch with the phone calls. One company said they could knock my quote down by a further 10%, but when I probed further he had just doubled my accidental damage excess!!

  • I have just canceled with endsleigh who want to charge me £50 for the privelidge of not sticking with the £833 renewal price. I searched online and found a douzen companies who could do it cheaper- over £400 cheaper!!! Dispite being a loyal customer who trusted them to find me the best price, when they tried to recalculate the premimum for me it came out at over £1000.
When an ammendment fee is £15 why when they clearly are not providing a competative service do they justify charging me £50 for doing what any sane person would and going else where.

They shouldn't charge you £50. Don't tell them you want to cancel. Just tell them you won't be renewing. That's not cancelling.

I got a similar experience, except the insurance company was M&S instead of AIG. See Post 305. However, in your case it's such a big difference! I guess the moral of this story is always use the price comparison websites first, don't assume the cashback sites will give you the best deal.

[ P.S. You've got to feel sorry for AIG though; how else would they be able to sponsor Man U without your business? ]
