On the 14/7/2011 Aviva admitted they were at fault.
I received all costs plus compensation and a letter of indemnity
(So no fine and no points) and increase in cover plus breakdown cover.

The fact is it does not matter how paper work you have if your vehicle is not on the Insurance Data Base you will be stopped by the police and have your car taken to a secure compound.

In my case Aviva made an error that was not brought to my attention until getting stopped.

It's not all bad news as Aviva paid my family holiday
Good to hear that it was rectified and that you managed to obtain compensation for the hassle you had.
  • The price of the policy isn't the only thing to consider.
Going to a broker like One Call Direct can mess with your life and literally staying alive!

Just got cancer & 7 days carless, with no progress
Carless with careless 1 One Call Direct (onecalldirect.co.uk)

1 Call only provide a courtesy car after they have decided how bad the cars damage is.

How long they take to do that is awful.

It's been 7 days so far and today their computer does not show any progress and said they do not care one way or the other, that it is taking this long.

They will not pay for a hire car and any costs will be ours, if the car is not a right-off. It is our gamble and we are trying to save all we can for her cancer care.

My mother-in-law is trapped at home, just when she should be living her life to the full. And with no local relatives, she will need to take several buses to get to a Cancer treatment on Monday.

The call center lady 'Lucy' was officious and nice, but did not show any feelings, as did her line manager. When she phoned him.

There are no decision makers or senior staff at the call center, as it is the weekend. Bad when insurance is paid for 7 days a week!

The policy of leaving customers carless while they mess around making decisions is bad, but their response when it drags on is deplorable. Especially in such circumstances.

Consider those that offer to be with you in 30 mins, before one that leaves you with nothing for a week.

So is there anything we can do about this pathetic situation we're in? We're being held to ransom by insurers, the government, petrol companies etc. This can't be helping the economy can it?
  • What is going on with car insurance..My husband is 34 and had a full licence since he was 17...for the past 5 years we have had various cars but never over the value of £1800. From 2ltr petol estates to 4x4 etc and he's never paid over £500 full comp with al the extras (legal & road side assistance etc) Now he's 3points for speeding nearly due to expire and 5yrs protected no claims, ha has a non fault hit 2yrs ago & a minor fault hit 12 months ago ( claim was for £200)..he got his insurance renewal last week and it was in excess of £2000...we have been shopping around for quotes and they have all exceeded £900.

We have been shopping around for the past month...everytime we've re-done the quote they have increased by £25. Finally had to get insurance as renewal was due an accepted we had to pay £878 - £1017 in instalments....for a V reg golf tdi worth £1700...when contacted the company to confirm the insurance...my husband was informed that as of the renewal date he would have 6yrs no claims and then the insurance WENT UP.......£957 - "1217 in instalments???

This does not make any sense whatsoever and is totally unwarranted?? How can anyone justify 110% increase in our insurance???

Same position I'm in. Is anyone going to help or do we just have to not eat for a month or two so we can keep our cars to go to work to pay tax to a government that want to screw the working class into the floor?
  • I would also like to add thats with a £450 excess?? We are a low income family with 3 children. My husband need the car to get to work!

    Tell me about it.

    I physically feel sick.

The cheapest I have been quoted after hours of searching for insurance an old nissan micra (2000 reg) is price of £1100. That is third party only and with a voluntary excess of £250 with my claims bonuses not being protected.

My last years was £750. I have 5 years no claims, no health problems and I am 27 years old.

I live in Birmingham and in my area i have seen a number of accident claim companies spring up in the last year. I'm 99% sure these crooks have been ramping up the cost of claims, but what I dont understand is why the heck I am being penalised for 'accidents' someone else is clearly using to collectively screw over my locality?

I would like to see someone investigate these crooks as I have heard on the grapevine that some of these companies in the area are paying people to "stage" accidents. I cannot see why the police and trading standards havent began an investigation in the claim companies and their "customers", but have spent millions investigation phone hacking etc.

As a low paid worker, with two young children trying to earn an honest living, who needs to travel to work and back over 20miles a day, how on earth am I suppose to pay this sort of a cost?

Honestly, I am at my wits end.

If anyone has any advice please help.
  • I agree the frauds that are going on withing the insurance companies is unbelievable...

As I stated earlier my husband had a minor fault accident, he clipped a wing mirror which unfortunatley was on a brand new curtesy car. No one was injured it was very slow speed. Total claim was approx £200. A few months later my husband was contacted regarding his "accident" and encouraged to put in a claim for injurys..Someone had passed on his information and details of his accident.

My sister was also contacted under very similar circumstances and encouraged to put in claims for injury...needless to say neither of them proceeded...but this is shamefull...indeed a win win situation for the insurance companies...but extortinatley ripping its customers off and demanding higher premiums from them!! Something needs to be done!!
  • Does anyone know of an insurance company that doesn't penalise drivers who have been insured by their employer for some years and therefore don't have standard insurance "no claims bonus"?

I am in my sixties and drive less than 4,000 miles a year. My only claim was in 2007 when my front bumper became scratched while parked on my street. I now have a driveway so this isn't likely to happen again.

I have been trying to get personal insurance as the only driver. I have been given quotes for £7-800 which would be £400 if I had 4 year's no claims.

I had extensive no claims before I became a company car driver.

    Can anyone help?

Are you still employed by the company who insured you as a driver? If you aren't can you not get a letter from them stating how many claim free years you've been driving with them? When my OH was made redundant, (having had a company car, now needed to get own), the employer's insurance company provided a letter stating how many claim free years had been earned, and then got maximum no claims bonus with the Co-operative.
