  • The renewal quote I received from Aviva of £470 is at least £80 cheaper than anything I can find anywhere else!
It still represents an increase of about 20% on last year's premium - is that typical?

amazing .. did an online quote and got one for £240 .. then went back and re quoted from same company £760 minutes later !!!

called them up , they found the £240 quote and £760 quote went through the details .. then told me the quote didnt exist !!

    eh? whats all that about??

Had similar happen, call in to take out insurance after getting an online quote when already a customer, speak to the call centre and get told the renewal is even more. We are with admiral now, by far the cheapest insurance if you have two cars in the house.

    Be gone ebil debts!!

    It is becoming more widespread.

You need to comply with their request otherwise they will cancel your policy.
  • thanks Quentin , I've got no problem with the photo one I've got that but lost the paper one and the DVLA don't issue them anymore , emailed them so will have to wait and see .

The "paper one" is the counterpart to your photo licence. And will be wanted by your insurer - it shows ant points you have!

    You can get them replaced.

There is a new insurer RSAeChoice which seems to undercut the rest. They quoted about 50% more going direct than through a comparison site, obviously I can't use cashback.

Is it really worth paying extra for this cover. I've been paying it for years and never had to use it. Yes, I know, that sods law could prevail, but it adds about £30 to the cost of the policy.

So in effect you are saying that you did have a valid insurance certificate. If this is the case, and you were able to produce that certificate to the police, then it's hard to see how they could prosecute you for not having insurance?

Your penultimate paragraph does not read as I suspect you want it to. In your first paragraph you say you received the certificate of insurance, yet in the penultimate paragraph I think you are intimating to the police that the insurer has denied that they have sent the insurance certificate.

Either you had a valid insurance certificate or you didn't. Which is it?

On the 14/7/2011 Aviva admitted they were at fault.
I received all costs plus compensation and a letter of indemnity
(So no fine and no points) and increase in cover plus breakdown cover.

The fact is it does not matter how paper work you have if your vehicle is not on the Insurance Data Base you will be stopped by the police and have your car taken to a secure compound.

In my case Aviva made an error that was not brought to my attention until getting stopped.

:) It's not all bad news as Aviva paid my family holiday :)
