Something called legal assistance has crept into car insurance over the last couple of years. Does anyone know if this is worth having?

It's been around a lot longer than a couple of years! I've always thought it worthwhile to have, as it will enable claims for uninsured losses against a third party for a relatively modest sum. However, when i had an accident last year I was contacted the next day by the third party insurer - repairs and courtesy car arranged with no fuss and nothing for me to pay. So in this case there was no need for the legal assistance. I'd still buy it though.

I have ALWAYS had legal cover, we had an accident 18 years ago, and they dealt with everything, wouldnt be without it.
Anyway came on to mention that as for putting older people on young drivers insurance to bring it down isnt always the case....for some reason it puts my stepsons up with his dad or me on...also one of my daughters goes up, the other strangley comes down...but by very very little.
Full no claims for both of us as well, so no accidents....we do both have 3 points, one 4 years ago the other 5, but even if we take this off to see what differenc eit makes, theres no difference to the price.
Yet if my stepson puts his 17 year old stepsister on with a provisional licence it comes down...insurance is so wierd!!!!
  • My premium is due for renewal last week in August and having received a written renewal notice with the new premium, I phoned them to haggle to get them down as I have been made recently redundant. Guess what, because of 'my change in circumstance' they put the premium UP. Even going through to their loyalty department they wouldn't budge! Has anyone had any similar problems for being honest and broke!!!???????

    If it says this:

"Any accidents or losses, whether there was a claim or not and regardless of blame, in the last 5 years"

then you will have to notify it.
  • Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me - - I have been with kwikfit insurance for my car for about two years. I recently got rid of the car and rang up to cancel the insurance - cost £50 plus extras so cost me £167 to cancel. The assistant I spoke to on the phone told me 'ok its cancelled, but saying the direct debit comes out of your account in two days it will still come out and you will still have to pay it'!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?? I think this is ridiculous if I paid to cancel it?

Anyway I cancelled it with the bank so they couldn't take it, and this morning I got a letter from a debt collector saying kwik fit has contacted them to recover an overdue debt! What should I do? I really think I shouldn't have to pay it?

Get details of the debt then take it from there - if you don't owe them the money being claimed off you.
  • Is there a car insurance that is purley monthly payment with no big deposit????

    Postcode discrimination?

I have just been looking around the comparisson sites for my renewal, due 1st September.

Last year my policy cost £435 with Endsleigh, this year the cheapest quote I can find is £713 and thats with 11 years NCB and over the 5 years with no points on my licence.

I was pretty blown away to see a price hike like that and wondered how it could be justified given I now have another years NCB and another year without any blemishes on my licence, it just doesn't really add up.

I live in the BB11 postcode and out of interest I inputted a work colleague's postcode of PR7 only to find now that the quote with all the other details the same is £490. Surely this is discrimination in some respect? Why do I pay so much more for the same product?

    :(

I would imagine it'd be based on the cost of claims payouts for given areas, ie if an area is more highly populated, therefore more traffic, it would probably have higher premiums due to more claims, etc.
