In this case though there was an innocent third party involved!0

Pay up, you have got off easy.
As for people being pious about informing insurance, insurance companies should stop ripping off customers by charging them higher premium for accidents which weren't their fault.
I know they claim if a person has one accident they are more likely to have another. Well then they can prove it. They should be made to publish the data which justifies their insurance premiums. If they can't justify higher premiums with the data, they should be banned from increasing them.0 -

Whenever you get quotes there's always a possibility that the price changes because more damage is discovered once parts are stripped etc. You can't agree s final cost of the incident based on just the repairs quote
But in your case once you agreed to pay the quote you were admitting your liability and as previously explained, the liable party is liable for all costs incurred, not just the repairs
All spilt milk now!
Tell the whole story to your insurer who will check out whether or not the third party did incur any extra costs etc before finally settling with them0 -
Yes I know your supposed to, but who on earth notifies their insurance co when not claiming for bumps?
The other party has now notified their insurance co about the damage, who will be contacting the OP's insurance company, who are going to find out about it from someone other than the OP. Putting the OP in breach of their contract.
The risk of a cancelled insurance policy on your record simply isn't worth the small bump in premiums for a few years.0 -
