Wife hit another car . Their bumper scared

Hi my wife got another car. (Fiat 2011 ) and their wdcspV3bumper has a large scratch(our car has hardly nothing). It’s someone in another dept at work. They wanted to do it out of insurance. So they came back saying it is 395 cash.

What should I do. We said can we have name of garage. And we may pay garage directly.

Also can I ring insurance company and ask what is excess?

Thoughts?

Your wife's excess should be shown on the paperwork she has from her insurance. Any insurance claim would come totally from your wife's insurance, not the other driver so their excess is immaterial.

If you are thinking of going via your insurance if the excess is lower than the cost then there will be the increased premiums due to an at fault claim. That increase will be higher than just telling them for notification purposes.

£395 to sort that sounds like a bodge job as there appears to be a crack in it.

There's normally no excess to pay when the only claim is for a third parties damage

Bear in mind that you are responsible for all the costs involved over the incident (eg. Hire car/taxis/loss of earnings etc. not just the body repairs

Before deciding do dummy quotes online with and without the claim in your record to see what difference it makes to your premium

Also if not protected your NCD will be impacted so alter that if doing dummy quotes

Don't contact your insurer about this unless you intend them paying!

If you do it will go on your record of losses (even if you pay it yourself and will have to be disclosed to any other Insurers you approach for quotes for years)

Just pay the people cash directly. Least hassle all round.

You're getting off light all things considered.

I dont think that is a crack, as there is no other stress bends elsewhere to warrant it.

Even if it is, £395 for a plastic repair and paint maybe half the bumper tops doesnt sound like a botch job.

..I would pay the cash, seems like a reasonable cost looking at the picture.
  • £20 for some t-cut and polish — easy £300+
On an 8 year old car that’s what I would do

Ok. How should I proceed. Shall I bank transfer money? What’s best way to do this with reasonable evidence

Speak to the body shop and arrange to pay them directly

(Are you sure that will be the end of it, and that the third party is prepared to breach their insurance policy conditions by not reporting this -- your insurer will be informed if they do!)
