    £20 for some t-cut and polish — easy £300+
On an 8 year old car that’s what I would do

Thats clearly never T cutting out as its well down past the top paint level.

Ok. How should I proceed. Shall I bank transfer money? What’s best way to do this with reasonable evidence

You could ask for a written quote - tell them you're putting it through your insurance and they are happy to pay you on the basis of a written quote or some other half viable story - and see what they come back with.

I think if you start dictating that you pay the repair shop directly it starts to get peoples backs up and the situation could get entrenched. Lets not forget its your wife at fault here.

Personally i'd pay it and forget about it.

I'd be scared of your wife too if she carried on driving like that.

That is a very reasonable quote. Pay up. Why do you want "evidence"?

If you play hard bull then the other owner just goes straight to your insurers. You are not really in a position to dictate really.

395 to repair that is either a good deal or a not great job. I'd be more expecting another 100-150quid on that.

I dont think that is a crack, as there is no other stress bends elsewhere to warrant it.

Even if it is, £395 for a plastic repair and paint maybe half the bumper tops doesnt sound like a botch job.
Agreed, I recently paid £420 to have scrapes on both front and rear bumpers, albeit less damage than this, and that was from a BMW dealer. £395 for that doesn't sound that bad at all.

Maybe they'll fit and paint one of these? Did similar on a completely different car, although I bought 2nd hand wrong colour and had it painted.

looks to me like the fog light may also be damaged. If you don't want to settle privately then give her your insurance details.
Of course even if you do not claim you will both have to notify your insurers of the incident.

Nothing at all in the original damage which suggests it needs a new bumper.
