What small DFW things will you do this week? W/C 29th July

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Morning all, Not sure why but I can't get back to sleep so decided to get up and start on my to do list and hopefully grab an afternoon nap later to make up for it.

 go to the gym and make the most of my membership including filling up my water bottle there done
 ys bagels for the kids breakfast done
 apply a voucher to our now movies package as we are in the last month of our current deal - bought a nowtv box more then a year ago on a discounted offer but forgot about it and signed up for a years deal  hopefully this 4 month pass will still work! done
 once ^^^ is done, will add this now box to my cex to sell pile. done, should sell for £4 voucher
 may book another session for the kids trampoline place if they fancy it for this afternoon done, going at 3pm
    record cars mileage
    check banking/update spreadsheet
 collect item from m&s foodhall that I'd ordered online - might leave this til tomorrow rather then heading out for an extra trip in the car
 wash the kids bedding and hang out on the line to dry as I know we have rain forecast for the following day done
 wash a load of whites on the quick 30 degree wash done, hang out to dry done and then iron (its dh's work shirts so I know they'll be ironing involved!
 make dh's lunch for Tuesday
 cook 2 chickens in the oven at the same time (and send some over to my parents) may as well do it like this as the ovens going on anyway!
 make a banana loaf as I've got several bananas that are over ripe for us
 make sure ds2 is doing what he needs to do with his online maths work, I want him to complete the year 6 review and preparing for secondary school clubs before his membership ends at the end of August. done, he's done well so looks like he's on track to complete :) I would highly recommend TheMathsFactor to anyone! its was created and fronted by Carol Vorderman and its been fantastic for my two boys.
 order more books for ds1 from the library online, much easier getting him to choose online and then collecting when they have what he wants! He often reads series of books so likes to make sure he has at least the first two books in a series in his hand and the subsequent ones on order as if he really enjoys a story he reads quickly! I used to spend a fortune buying books for the kids, so using our library saves us a fortune!
 triage fridge and meal plan around whats in there
Also done a small load on the quick wash with darks as its nice a windy.

I'm sure I'll think of a lot more things to do today but that will be my starter!

    Have a good week all.

Morning all - You were up at Silly O'clock then, 1LL. That's how we were in the hot weather last week.
Didn't do much at the weekend due to almost non-stop rain, so looking forward to crossing some jobs off today:
*Peg out overnight laundry plus another two loads as rain back for next few days & I'm not paying to dry clothes.
*Make a fish pie from all the trimmings I saved when I portioned up our most recent Grimsby fish box order.
    *Pick more French beans.
    *Sow more coriander.
*Plant out a tray of lettuces.
    *Feed veg garden.
    *Pick more sweet peas.
*Feed sourdough jar ready for baking a loaf probably Tuesday.
    *Check.for surveys.
*Update grocery budget & return unspent cash to household piggy.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
    *Finish library book.
    *Do today's decluttering.
    *Do a freezer inventory.
    *Knit. (for presents bag)
*Free fitness today will be gardening jobs & making sure I get my daily minimum of 7000 steps, which I didn't last week because of the heat.
    *Update dfw diary.
*Decide what to do with some rhubarb.
Wishing everyone a positive start to the week.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • Morning 1LL & foxgloves :D Thanks for starting the thread 1LL hope you manage to get some zeds and don't feel exhausted today!

I am sure you will all be pleased to hear I finally made the bread! _party_

Today madam is going out with dd so I will have the day off :D I want to keep the day as holiday like as possible so do chores efficiently (aka as super speedy)

    * reply to party invite madam has received
    * put a load of washing in. Weather looks good, might be able to do 2
    * divvy up rubber chicken. I want to do a chicken, chorizo and rice thingy and a risotto...
    * go through fridge, wipe it down and make sure nothing is perishing. A full to the brim fridge is always a danger zone!
    * call cc I think I missed the paydate _pale_ need to beg them not to charge me and keep my 0% deal...
    * finish the trousers! I am almost done but I made the same mistake twice on the cuff so decided to put it down and wait until today
    * go to the allotment
    * go for a run
    * pot on all my plants - really not doing well with my plants this year :o
    * speak to oh about a sewing course I want to do. It will involve either going a day a week to London or doing an intensive course
    * hot tub :D

Ok that is enough for one day. Hope you all have a great day x

  • Oh, you all sound like you have so many plans to keep busy with! Meanwhile mine are...

    * Continue eating (mostly) what I already have in the pantry.

    * Sort through some of the junk I own (especially books) and see what can go.

    * Update the spreadsheet listing what I have in my pantry.

    * Have a look and double check my budget/if there's anything that needs tweaking.

    * Start reading the course books for the MA I'm starting in Sept rather than wasting time/money on other things.

    * Return some books to the library.

Have a good week, everybody :)

Many thanks for starting off the thread 1LL.
Hoping u manage to squeeze in a nap later.

I found myself continually waking up, ,partly because the cats kept being sick_pale_.......one even being sick on my wheelchair:eek:
With DD feeding the cats at the minute, her stocktaking of their tins isn't great and thought we had another pack which we didn't so they had to have sachets only for their evening meal which has obviously turned out to be too rich for them for an evening.
Next door seem to think we want to play name this tune as we can hear their music loud:(

Despite not a great start to Monday I actually feel in a good happy mood.
Spent the weekend resting up being miserable (I really don't make a good patient at all).

Have checked all banking. Found that we have been spending more since I've been laid up as DD has been shopping and uni students must have snacks to live apparently:D

We've got to go out today to do a few bits so I am really looking forward to breaking out and actually being active. If I get tired with anything I just stay in the car and DD goes off to do the bits and pieces.

Had a final Amaz@n delivery this morning of items for DD ready for going back to uni. Had some deals where there were vouchers on them plus 15% subscribe and save, add in some price checks and they were ordered. These will now be cancelled as the price goes up next month if we were to keep having them delivered and DD has more than enough of items now.

Aiming to do some paperwork later but that might turn into a nap!

Have a good Monday everyone x

    Morning All
Just a quick visit, as I really need to be somewhere else!! How did you all cope in the heat? And then all the rain? Someone should tell the powers that be that we'd be happy with something in between - moderation in all things, especially weather!!

    So far today -

    - one load of washing hung out (rain forecast for today but not until late evening here). Another load in the wash and will get hung out when I get back. Second load hung out and dried, and a third, and a fourth. This girl is on a roll!!
    - sorted out my receipts so I can claim back my work-related expenses for this month. Done, then forgot to take the blithering things with me. Will try again on Thursday.
    - bought Premium Bonds!! I'm about to take in a lodger, and he's paid his deposit. As he's a lodger, I don't have to secure the deposit in the same way as I would if he was a tenant - but equally I don't want it to just get sucked into the general kitty. Interest rates are nothing to write home about, so I thought I'd get Premium Bonds instead of just putting it in a savings account and - well, you never know!! The chances of winning are higher than the National Lottery, and you can get your money back at any time. What's not to love.

    - OH has repaid me £2000 that he sort of owed me (we both got decent tax refunds last year, and decided to use them to pay off our car loans - but then, as he was paying a higher interest rate than me it made sense to put the whole lot into paying off his). After he left, I regretted doing that, obviously, but it was done in good faith. Anyway, he's paid me the money back - and I've used it to pay off part of my car loan. Half of my car loan, in fact, which feels very good indeed.

    Enjoy your day

    xx
