EveryWhere wrote: »It costs as little £17 for an SSD. You can run a clean install to the SSD. That way, if there are any problems, you can simply just replace the old HDD and everything will be the same as before.
But there is no reason as to why there should be issues.
Just come back here once you have purchased the SSD. No need to wait until January is upon you.
Thankyou.
Have you seen one for £17?
Cheapest i could find was £30

I think people are barking up the wrong tree here. The O/P should look at what processes are running and also tweaking the power settings to keep the temp down / fans off.
Running hot / fans on is a common Win10 issue with SSD and there are many workarounds that will help.
I've had various older laptops with SSD upgrades and its a common trait, but is minimisable.
There are various online guides with checklists.
Thankyou for your reply.
Can you link to any, please?0 -

I appreciate that!
Will it be okay for my Medion Akoya E6221 (MD 97881) please?0 -

That looks remarkably like the cover off my CyberPower X9200 laptop.

(Turn the photo above by 180° and your image looks like it will fit).
I replaced the HDD in this machine with an SSD, put the HDD in a DVD caddy (to give additional internal storage), and connect the DVD drive via a USB-SATA cable when I need it.

In addition to gc's eBay link;

We will install Window 10 Pro to the SSD. But in order to do so, you'll need to take some steps beforehand.
Firstly, creation of the installation media. For that you'll need an empty USB Flash drive of at least 8 GB capacity.
You can use either Microsoft's tool; https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 or Rufus; https://rufus.ie to create the installation media.
We'll need it to utilise the gatherosstate method, in so that we can clean install Windows 10 to the SSD and have it activate itself without the need for a key.
Is the Windows 7 you have installed on the Medion, from the Medion re-installation DVD or restore partition?0 -
The Medion was from ebay with Windows 7 already installed.
It was working fine.
So I downloaded Windows 10 from Microsoft.
Firstly i tried doing Windows 10 in a partition....The laptop wouldn't boot up to Windows 10 or 7 !
So i deleted them both.
Then i did a clean Windows 10 install... again the laptop wouldn't boot up afterwards.
So i downloaded Windows 7 from Microsoft.
Installed that..... And the laptop went back to booting up okay.
Then i hit upon the idea of trying Windows 8.1.... (Another three of years of Windows updates / support)
But like Windows 10 ... It wouldn't boot up either!
So once again i installed Windows 7, and am using it now.0 -
