I’ve melted my way through a day’s work and been into small town with DD to run a couple of errands. I’ve finished off yesterday's jobs by cleaning the ensuite but I haven’t been able to face the vacuum cleaner. I’ve flicked a duster around the bedroom and that is going to have to do for the moment. The bed change might have to wait until first thing tomorrow morning.
Just waiting for the towel wash to finish so I’m going to look for something interesting to do with chicken salad for dinner while I wait.

Paid stuff done and I’ve showered for the second time today, just washed some towels as we are getting through rather a lot at the moment. They should be dry soon!
Gave en suite a bit of a swish while I was in there and have done the dailies. It’s clouded over a bit here but it’s no cooler for it!

My plan for this evening is to do not much at all. Too tired to even go for my swim as planned. Supper is cold meat and salad so nice and easy. Really not looking forward to tomorrow’s heat!

Have a lovely evening all x

  • The thunderstorms went on all around us, but not over us. Most annoying, although Himself admitted whilst we were meeting friends in a Turkish Cafe for brunch (ooh, get us!) that he did nip out at about 3am to stand in the bit of rain that happened. I checked. He did wear *some* clothes, apparently.

Went down to a mere 29 degrees in the bedroom last night. Back up to 32 by 7am, though, despite the black curtains, etc. Was reading 36 when we got back at 3.30pm, at which point he negotiated leaving him alone and he'd do some flying when it cooled down - he's just about thinking about doing something now, as he promptly fell asleep until 7pm.

I sort of did some work in that I chucked 5 gallons of water over the herbs out the front once the sun had gone over, another over the path itself to try and cool it a little and made some mint tea from the profusion of herbage growing delightedly out the front. Oh, and planned how to prune/extract the house from underneath the great swathes of ivy that are happily swarming all over it. I love ivy for the way it provides shelter for birds (we already get a mob of sparrows faffing around in it after bugs) and later, nectar for insects - but I'd quite like to be able to keep opening the windows next summer, so I will have to do something about it fairly soon. The honeysuckle has gone bonkers this year as well, so Idiot Cat is thundering around at midnight after hummingbird hawkmoths in the house most nights.

And I've de-polka dotted both felines 5 times today. Eejit animals keep on doing their business over a large clump of Goosegrass, with the inevitable result of having to remove 20-30 little sticky balls from 'the base of their tails' and bellies every time they come back inside.

Good news, though - the all shiny new washing machine is being delivered on Sunday. Not my preferred brand, but it looks very flash, although anything compared to my ancient 5kg Bosch was going to do that. 9kg washload, apparently. And 1600 spin (for some programs). AND a 14, 30 and 45min quick wash, according to the spiel. Not convinced what practical purpose being able to connect it to our mobiles could possibly serve, so I doubt we'll bother with that, though.

Couldn't believe how expensive the microwaves were, though - they're so much more expensive, even for the identical model to the current one; in my head, you can still pick one up for £30 in the supermarket, or is that a thing of the past? I avoid supermarkets, so I wouldn't know.

Tomorrow's plan is to have the bath permanently with a foot of cool water in it to try and keep from overheating (ginger AND white, here, you know. Plus balding - him, not me) and doing precisely nowt.

I'm off for another shower now, though. Might not sleep, but I must be losing pounds from sweating. I'm treating it as a dry (well, not so dry, really) run for menopause. I'm not looking forward to that bit.

Morning all. Hope you're all ok.

Two work shifts for me today and a council meeting so I need to fit in phone calls and time to go over all the papers and planning applications again.

DH says I also need to get my insect bites sorted out but I'm not sure I've got time for that.

Right, need to get some rice cooking for the dogs and put some cream on the bites.

    Have a great day everyone.

Awake. Humph. Had a bad night due to the heat and I know I'm not the only one. Keeping rehydrated. Keeping up with pelvic floor exercises too. Bin is out awaiting imminent collection.
I might do some of the sewing jobs today. And write my list.

Saver sell an aerosol cooling spray for face and body 49p. Mine is in the fridge for extra coolth.

    Have a good day x

    Morning :hello:

A very noisy lorry drove past at 5.20 am and woke me up. I thought it was thunder. I did turn over and try to go back to sleep, but the mind gremlins had already jumped on to their hamster wheel :( So I'm up.

The other day I spotted a pair of flannelette sheets in a bag ( on the kitchen floor - behind the kitchen table :o) so I decided to make good use of this heat and put them in the wash. They could then be put away for use this winter :T However …. on top of the pair of flannelette sheets (which I knew existed) was a set of bedding I don't remember ever setting eyes on before  Double bed: fitted bottom sheet, top sheet and two pillow cases, in pink cotton :T They're like new - as though I took them out of the packet, put them aside and forgot about them. Or maybe Mum gave me them many moons ago? I honestly have no idea! They are now swishing in the WM :D And in future I'll be able to strip my bed and NOT have to get the bedding dry on the same day to get it back on the bed again :T The remembered flannelette sheets have also been retrieved and are patiently waiting for their turn to swish - probably later as cotton sheets are going to dry very quickly in the heat.

I checked the forecast - highs of 32 expected here. I'll nip in to town first thing to pick up my prescription / drop books at cs. If I pop to Mr C00p on the way home - I can then sequester myself indoors for the rest of the day.

Please take care if you have to carry on as normal in the heat. Keep hydrated.

Many thanks Valli for today's list. I have to go out for an hour at lunchtime ( but will be indoors once I arrive) but otherwise staying at home. It's pleasant sat outside this am with a coffee, but I doubt this will last. Very little that I MUST do today. Bit of food prep at some points. Otherwise staying in the shade and resting sounds ideal. Windows are open, curtains closed.

    Have restful days everyone

    Morning all

Yesterday we took Rosie to the big woods and had an early lunch in the nice cafe there, sitting outside in the shade - and Rosie got her dog sausage too :D Then she and I enjoyed a pleasant walk through the shady forest (there was a gentle breeze too), but as the temperatures started climbing we all came home early and I flopped for most of the rest of the day.

Today - already even hotter, despite the breeze - I have to run Toddler Group, but at least it will be quite cool in church, as the walls are thick and the ceiling is very high. The only problem is moving all the chairs, and then moving them all back again!

Flying at home is back to minimal again for the time being, though I am slowly crossing items off my long list - including two that have been on my Toots list for over a year! DH has been sorting and "tidying" his man cave for several weeks already and I can't see much difference. He has spent £££ on matching storage boxes

Round, well done for getting that GP appointment :T:T:T
(((Hugs))) to Narc0, I'm glad that the decision has been made for you regarding MIL. I hope you find a good place for her close by xx
Jojo, enjoy your new WM :j
Jazee, get those insect bites seen to!

Keep as cool as you can, everyone  - and remember to drink lots of water :)
