I've done nothing, except sat on the sofa, watching some builders near me, who are relaying a drive way in this heat, stripped of to the waist, (think of that cola advert :o:rotfl: ) oh to be at least [STRIKE]20[/STRIKE] 30 years younger!

Round, I think time out is just what you need for now, I'm glad that someone sent you home, have time to recharge, and for you to think what you want to do, and make sure you get your point of view over to the boss, before MM does!! write everything down and take with you or ready for if the boss rings you, hugs.

Might go and wash a few bits up...........

Hugs to Round take your time to rest, recover and do what's best for you.

Can't believe we're on page 3 already (ooh er) and I'm racing to catch up - well, crawling in this heat. Summary of the last week:
    - sorted house out flying-wise.
    - went down to Dorset to my mum's, did a few things for her and with her.
    - brought her back to Herts.
    - final decision by professionals that MIL would not be safe to live alone, so have visited a possible permanent care home for her, with my mum as senior advisor and inspector!
    - Mr N has spoken to a range of people and established that we have 28 days to clear MILs rented flat once we have given notice; better than we'd feared as we had visions of having to clear it by the end of the month. Started the process by sorting 2 large baskets of knitting yarn which my mum will distribute round various friends who knit for charity. Of course in the baskets we also found 2 odd socks, a long lost phone charger, some Christmas cards and various other items, which I suspect will set the tone of the sorting. .
    - good effort from my mum, Mr N and I to get house, garden and food supplies ready for my step brother and sil who came to dinner on Sun.
    - similar on a smaller scale to accommodate my brother last night. He's just returned from work in France so kindly said he'd detour here and take mum home, which saves me a trip.
    - finally got to opticians after having to cancel a couple of times. Contacts ok, new specs ordered.
    - Have just had confirmation that I have got the uni contract for another 2 years, so I'm very relieved. My friend lost out as this year they want one less assessor than last contract. Fortunately she's not too upset.

Now all visitors have left but house is tidy, Mr N did 2 loads of washing while I was at the gym this morning. It is extremely hot and we're bracing ourselves to visit MIL.
    Epic post over!

Way to go Round! You are being very productive. Agree with others that rest and recovery is what you need xx

I’ve finished paid stuff and come downstairs to where the heat is radiating from the conservatory into the kitchen and it’s boiling! All doors open to the garden now, 2nd wash load brought in, it’s so dry I can barely fold it! Stripped off spare room bed to wash tomorrow, will also do the throws from the sofas and may even do curtains if DH will take them down for me this evening. This weather has to be good for something.
Having a sit down for a while now. There are things I could be doing but it’s just too hot. Will move in a bit when it’s a little cooler (hopefully).

    Bye for now x
  • Oh Round, I feel for you I really do.

I'm so pleased you have decided to take the rest of the week off. I have been where you are, my house was a hovel, I lacked the energy to do anything and I felt myself sinking.

You seem to have got on with a lot of tasks this afternoon, so try and get some rest for the rest of the day. I was talking to a GP the other day who says he often accompanies a 'work related stress' sick note with the instruction -' now, go home and clean your kitchen'
Recognising that, before seeking help people's homes show the signs of the stresses they've been under and a clean kitchen can help signal the start of taking control over life once more.

At the end of the day work is work, your mental and physical health has to come first. And sometimes, only by walking away can others see how much you are affected.

I wish you peace in the coming days.

Thank you Badcat, wish and pigpen xxx

I've been to see my Dad as I always call after work on a Tuesday, so if I didn't he'd worry. I told him I'm off work - he only lives round the corner and is bound to see my car in the drive when it shouldn't be if I kept quiet. I played it down though as he frets more about things since Mum died. Oh bother, now I'm having a 'Mum moment' :( And breathe...

I've: brought in and folded the dry washing
    filled the bird bath
    watered the hanging basket
watered the lettuces as they are now in shade

    I need to eat something.

  • Well, apparently the firm that interviewed him today are interested and should be making arrangements for him to be part of the rotas from mid August. Which will be better than nowt.

I'm too hot to make a big fuss. [strike]and I'll believe it when I see it[/strike].

Just want to sit in a paddling pool somewhere with a cool drink, to be honest. There is going to be almost zero cleaning done until it starts feeling more like proper weather, rather than an oven door being opened on us.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

    Humongous squishy hugs, Round.

Thank you, Iona. We are fighting another day, with repeat scans in a few weeks. In the meantime, we are “not to worry”....as if. :o To be fair, it could have been a whole lot worse, so I am grateful to be where we are.

Smugly cool at work in the air con, but flying wasn’t helped this evening. I’ve forced myself to fling towels in the wash, give the bathroom a clean, WULTD after making dinner, and water the pots and greenhouse. That’s me done now. DH and DD are arguing over some summer homework or other so I am lurking in the kitchen until it is safe to venture out. Luckily I have a packet of biscuits to keep me company:p
