Got to be bubble and squeak! I love it if there's leftover mash and veg - just give it all a good mix together, salt and pepper, form into cakes and fry in Frylight (or if you haven't got Frylight, as little oil as you can get away with) - lovely with a fried egg,or ham and pickles.

Guess what I'm having for lunch! Haha. Didn't think of making it into cakes, I just kinda of swish the mash around until it's nice and hot and crispy. Kinda wish I hadn't let Mum take home the leftover cabbage now, but broccoli will work fine!

How do people do fried eggs on SW? With Frylight, I can just envision it all stick to the pan?

Pollyanna you can make free gravy! Just use an Oxo cube or similar and make up as usual with boiling water in a saucepan and then add Xanthum gum which is a Free food (a gluten free thickener) a little at a time beating the whole time until thickened to desired consistency.

Or you can make some onion gravy but that takes quite a long time and a bit of a faff. If you want the recipe happy to post it.

I too would go for bubble & squeak with a fried egg and/or ham and pickles.

Sounds interesting. I think for 1syn I will stick with the 20p gravy from Tesco though. I know the girls like it.

Never heard of Xanthum gum though, might look into it. What else is it used for?

I have bubble & squeak or some sort of hash at least twice a week for lunch. I love it so I make extra veg deliberately. I don't bother making cakes I just stir it all up and fry, then I eat it alongside cold meat and pickles. I don't have mash available too often so mine is often just a sliced potato and all the rest Speed. Once it's in the frying pan and heated through it's best not to stir it around too much or it doesn't brown.

Depending on your frying pan Pollyanna you can either dry fry eggs or use a bit of frylight. It depends how non stick your frying pan is. If you normally 'flip' oil over the egg to help cook it, try putting a lid on for a few minutes or turn it over if you like them that way. :)

I made reasonably wise choices last night. I had prawn cocktail followed by salmon and then a pot of Earl Grey while others tucked into puddings;). So mayo/Marie Rose, some vinaigrette on the salmon, a gin and a glass of wine. The only wasted syns IMO were because this is a 'posh' pub so serves Fever Tree which isn't free.:( I'm not going to estimate the meal but I'll keep a track of what I use the rest of the week and then I'll know how many left. Sounds convoluted but I obviously went wrong with estimating last week. :(

I've planned today's menu to use things up and then I'll do my meal plan and shop later.

    EE plan:
B: NAS grapefruit (F), frozen red berries (S) with Greek yogurt (P), HEA milk for drinks
    L: veggie (S) omelette (P) with pickled onions (S)
D: gammon slices (P) with SW chips (F) tomatoes and stir fried veg (S)
    Syns: still thinking about it;)

Well, my lunch was a success! I'm going to call it potato hash, haha.

The cake part didn't work as they kept breaking up.

    LO Mash
    LO Broccoli chopped up
    Mushrooms precooked
    Slices of Ham chopped up
1 egg and 1 egg white (as I need the yolk for my pasta sauce later)

I didn't have the eggs on the side, I literally chucked it all into a bowl and mixed it up. I had hoped the eggs would help "bind" it all together, but half of my lunch was like patties and the other half just smush, but boy it was good!!!! Didn't think I would eat it all, but I managed it! If it was a side to a main dish, I think it would have served two absolutely fine.

But I'm not having anything else. Normally I have a yogurt and some Hula Hoop Pufts. Today I am just having tea.

    Well done DIMW great loss.

Pollyanna when I do fried eggs I spray a pan with Frylight and crack in the eggs and once they have set I add a little water and a lid which helps cook the yolk.
