I think maybe you should try to get to grips with one thing at a time. Anything you do to get close to SW will help so keep making small changes to your meals. The main thing will be to prioritise your treats (syns) so, for example, you'd have to decide between wine and French bread. :D
This is going to sound really daft, but what difference does it make if a food is protein or free or speed? If you don't have to count anything for them anyways... just curious if I am missing something?
SW works on food optimising which is about getting the most out of our food by having a balanced, healthy diet. We need all food groups but in different proportions. So (sadly) not as much in the way of treats (syns) like sugar, fat and alcohol as we need in the healthy Speed and Protein that's in lean meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. Carbs are good fillers and give energy. Plus we need some calcium for bone health and fibre for good digestion. The SW plan makes it easy to get the right balance. The HEAs and HEBs give you the calcium and fibre, then you need at least a third of your meals as Speed fruit and veg with the rest protein and carbs. If you just did 50 :50 Speed and Protein then you'd maybe lose weight faster but you might miss the carbs. That's it put briefly. It means we can eat lots as long as we eat the right things. :) HTH

Some good tips and explanations from Maman & Bubbs. I make a cauliflower and blue cheese soup Pollyanna using the Laughing Cow blue cheese triangles (5 is a HEA).

Today's plan is back to the old Green day:

B - scrambled eggs on toast - HEB and Free, may add some frozen spinach for S
L - cheese salad - HEA and Speed
D - mixed bean goulash and rice - beans P; onion, garlic, tinned tomatoes S; paprika, Marmite, stock made with cube F; rice F (recipe adapted from a Jack Monroe recipe - cookingonabootstrap website). I use a dried 10 bean mix from Waitrose so these need to be soaked overnight and cooked before using in the recipe.

    HEA1 - milk
    HEA2 - 30g cheddar
    HEB1 - bread
HEB2 - none planned but have Hifi bars; Ryvita etc
Syns - none planned but if I have some Ryvita will be a few for spread

    Thanks everyone.

Haha, Maman, I think the problem was that I ate so much bread because I had drank so much wine the night before. There is an easy solution to all this, I just have to keep telling myself that!

I am like the worst at this ever. As expected, I put on. 1lb 11oz to be precise. Hmm. I have to realise I'm not in my early 20s anymore as back then I either found it easier to stick to a diet or the weight didn't stick so much.

But still, new week and all that. Focus. Thinking of bringing lunch with me and avoiding McDs. Will save money anyways.

I have Warburton Thins. Can't see it in the HEB list, but have to be better than bread, right? They aren't the wholemeal version unfortunately.

    B - Coffee

    L - Ham Warburton Thin ??
    WW Yogurt (0.5)
    Hula Hoop Pufts (3.5)

D - Thinking tuna pasta for the girls, might have the same. So I'm thinking I only have to syn the mayo I put in? I will be having tuna in brine or spring water.

    S - Alpen Bar, tea

And off to the supermarket this pm with me to stock up on the healthy stuff.

Pollyanna - today's plan looks good. Unfortunately the Warburton Thin isn't HEB - it's 5 Syns but with your other syns it still only comes to 9 syns so far.

You could have 2 Alpen Light bars for HEB. If they're not the Light ones then it's only one.

Which Mayo are you using? The best one is the Lighter Than Light @ 0.5 syn per level Tbs; full fat mayo is 5 syns per level Tbs! so a big difference. The Light mayo is 2 syns per level Tbs.

The tuna will be Protein as it's in brine or spring water so a very good choice. The one in oil is ridiculously high at 4 syns per 100g:eek:.

Enjoy your day in London. Well done on deciding to take your own lunch rather than going to McDs, will also save a lot of money:money:.

That looks OK Pollyanna but no veg or fruit?? Easy to add some in for yourself to your menu, even if the kids will revolt! Do you not usually eat breakfast? That's an easy time to grab some fruit, if you can take it. My OH is vegetarian and I'm not so although I don't have young children to consider I know the pain of producing different meals (and I had the fussiest eater as a child - she ate 5 things for 2 years!)

It took me several weeks to get my head around SW and I was going to a group when I first started, so don't lose heart!

Well, on opening the fish I planned to cook yesterday it was off, 2 days before the use by date. The smell was something else
Instead I had one of Aldi's frozen lamb shanks (synned) with new potatoes and veg.

    Today's Menu
HEB - cereal HEA - milk in tea/coffee
B Kellogs All bran fibre crunch (a new find) with blackberries (S) 0% greek yoghurt (F?P?) and a drizzle of honey (1)
    L JP (F)with Tuna (P) LTL Mayo (1/2) and salad (S)
D OH has announced that he has an upset tummy so just myself to feed tonight, so braised Liver (P) bacon and onions, I'll give potatoes a miss tonight, with swede, carrots, green beans, broccoli (all S) Gravy(1.5)

    Have a good day everyone.

Ae you sure you didn't feed him that fish??:D

Swede and carrot mash is an excellent substitute for potatoes. I often use it to top a cottage pie. Sometimes I'll just add carrots to mashed potatoes to keep the carbs a bit lower. It all helps.:)

Well done on the positive thinking Pollyanna. I'm always drawing a line and starting again. :D

Have you made a plan for the week before you hit the supermarket? It's normal to have to use up what you've got in when you start SW but some wholemeal bread seems a must. Or why not have something other than a sandwich for lunch. Just as an example, you could make a pasta salad with LTL mayo and any other ingredient like tuna or chopped veg or ham or whatever and have that for lunch either at home or on the move. I don't know where you shop but Aldi, Lidl and Asda all do a LTL mayo at half a syn per tbsp and Sainsbury's BGTY is the same.

I've got about 14 syns left until Thursday (adjusted down for a 6 day week). I am out later with a group of friends that either have drinks (alcoholic) or cakes/biscuits but I think I can be strong!:D After today I don't really need any more syns for my menu.

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS grapefruit (free), HEB toast, scrambled eggs (P), HEA milk for drinks
L: cold beef (P) with LO fried potato (free) and fried mixed veg and beetroot (S)
D: chicken (P) and veg (S) stir fry with noodles (free)
Syns: HP sauce 1, honey 2.5 (in HM stir fry sauce)

Where did you buy the fish? I would contact customer services of the shop and tell them, they should at least refund the cost of it. I've done that with Tesco's stuff a couple of times and always get a voucher to the value of what I've bought and once I also got an additional £5 voucher as an apology - that was when I bought 1Kg of mussels and over half of them were dead! Only 400g available to use which is nowhere near enough for 2 people!

Natural Greek yoghurt is neither S or P it's just Free.

Enjoy meeting up with your friends Maman. I'm sure you'll manage with your syns! I've got the opposite problem this week I'm struggling to use them, only been over syns by a few a couple of.days and below on the others. Haven't checked how many I've got left but at least 15 a day which is unheard of for me on a Monday :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.
