Morning, very off topic, but got moral dilemma.
Friend's BIL died suddenly on Sunday, lived in Indian ocean island, want to be vague in case friend sees this. One of his sisters, who lives in Europe has decided that she & my friends DH will pay for funeral, but neither can afford to pay and the rest of the family don't appear to be making any contribution to the cost. My friend now feels that pressure is being placed on her to contribute/help cover the cost, but financially is unable to contribute more than they have done.
I can help, which I would do in a heartbeat for my friend, but feel that she is being taken for granted by the outlaws, but at same time, don't want to see friend & DH having additional pressure at this difficult time. Her parents in law both died in recent years and they covered cost of funerals, but when they were there at Christmas, were shocked that the family haven't even bothered to look after the grave.

Advice to give is easy enough, but not sure that it helps with such a complex situation, just wanted to give a thought though, our cost in UK runs into the thousands and am sure this is not likely to be the case in areas - lets say of Indian Ocean. Your friend needs to have an idea of the costs out there or she or he could really be taken advantage of, especially if some of the family out there have lived in UK and have idea on our costs. I really am ashamed of drawing this conclusion at such a sad time, but you seem to have concerns.
As for you helping out....you really need to have an idea of cost, plus they usually do things so quickly in warmer climes that it may well be taken care of my now.
I think you main role is to be 100% supportive at this sad time.0 -

Thanks Vega, I know the costs are not high comparatively, only about £200 to her, but it is the principle that is getting to us, the expectation that the family at home have that it will all be sorted and they don't need to worry about it. Also, as you said, the funeral was this morning, so there is no way they could have made it, so there is the guilt trip about not being there forced on them also.
As I said, moral dilemma. Families are so complex!A smile costs little but creates much0 -
Very difficult Vegastare. I think you just need to be as supportive of your friend as you can be. It is certainly very difficult. I suspect the family assume they have loads of money because wages in this country as so high compared to there but possibly the family don't understand that our cost of living is also so much more than theirs.
Well I'm back from the hospital and had my lunch and managed to save a few Syns as didn't eat it at the hospital but had something once we got home. I had a brogue instead of bread so saved 4 syns there but must admit to using that and more of a glass of wine to go with it! I felt it was needed after the scan which was awful in some respect as I am a bit claustrophobic and the camera came down really close to my face as it was my thyroid and parathyroid that they were scanning.
After all the blood tests & canulas over the weeks my veins are really not happy being jabbed so much! Had a blood test first thing and then 2 lots of the radioactive stuff. The first girl had two attempts before calling a sister to do the first one; the second jab they didn't bother with one of juniors or the sister I got the senior sister! Definitely much better than the first girl.
Just glad it's over now. I told them that I have an appointment with the Dr who referred me on Thursday and asked if it was possible the result could be with him by then! No guarantees but both areas have put a note to say I have the appointment. Really hope the result is there then so I'm not left waiting until next week for the result.

Glad to hear you were home by lunchtime denise and all those tests are behind you. It doesn't sound like a pleasant experience. Fingers crossed that the test results get through PDQ.:)
I agree that the best thing you can do is be supportive gtq. Personally I wouldn't get involved in their family finances or relationships. It does sound as if the relatives in this country have a different attitude particularly after what you said about tending the grave. Hopefully your friend will get some comfort from knowing she's done the right thing by own values. If the other relatives can't/won't contribute then that's for them to live with their own consciences.
I've looked at the menu for our anniversary meal tonight. I have 56 syns to use! I won't choose so wisely that it spoils my meal but I do tend to lean towards the lighter options, like fish, because I enjoy them.
As the consultants always say it's only one meal and breakfast and lunch have been on plan. Tomorrow I'll be 100% back on it and then Thursday starts a new week.:)0 -
Glad you got thru your day denise. Having been thru BC treatment, remember feeling slightly uneasy when lying horizontal with arms up and big machinery coming closer and closer whilst everyone else was far away behind a screen!
Hope everyone is doing ok. Another lb gone here after WI today. 1 more and I will get my 4.5st award, hopefully next week. Was one of the nominees for Woman of the Year in my group, so told my ‘story’. Glad that is behind me :rotfl:. Didn’t win which is fine, still am proud of where I am, have been going 31wks apparently. Made SW friendly brownies for Tasters, which went down well. Can post recipe if anyone is interested, uses sweet potato!
Just had some yellow watermelon which was very tasty. Came across it on Instagram, then saw it at Tesco recently. Very sweet, would happily buy again.
Off to have my coffee and 2 celebratory hifi bars shortly. The peanut butter ones are going and the dark choc mint ones have made a comeback fyi.

By the time I left, I'd really had enough, and had the beginnings of a migraine. Was glad to get a bit of fresh air, and get home. Fortunately the headache did pass, as did the accompanying nausea.
Meal plan today:
B - melon & 0% skyr (1.5)
L - mixed leaves, carrot, tomatoes, sweetcorn, peppers, cucmber, peppered ham, dressing (1); started my 0% greek yogurt with mango & strawberries, but about 3 spoons in I really didn't feel like it, so put it back in the fridge.
D - chicken stir fry with wild rice, chili & corriander noodles & sauce (3)
HEA - milk in tea/coffee
snack - chicken drumstick x 2
Was meant to have the stir-fry yesterday for dinner, but DS3 unexpectedly turned up in the afternoon, and stayed for dinner... provided dinner involved sausagesJust as well Ii'd stocked up on some extra Aldi skinny sausages yesterday afternoon then I guess
I make mash with a dash of milk, sometimes a blob of butter/spread, and plenty of ground black pepper and lots of mashing to make it nice and smooth.
Like some others I felt a bit 'off' today. Think I may have just been tired, as I struggled to get to sleep last night, and woke a few times during the night too. Planning on an early one tonight to give myself a chance to get more sleep.
I hope tomorrow goes okay Denise.
At home we all had our own places at the table and had dinner at 6.15 apart from Friday 7pm, Sunday 1.15:rotfl::rotfl: but my mum cooked for 9 as cooked for my pap and uncle too
