I love our local Park Run, do it every week. Not admitting I am slow, though my running partner is 25 years older than me (he's 78) and we chat about our week all the way around:) I have tried to improve my PB in the past, but hate the heart beating out of my chest sensation and much prefer my social runs with him.
Fab bunch of volunteers whom I go for a coffee with every week, really good for the soul and good start to my weekend.
Hope you enjoy your Park Run, be careful they are addictive.
The coach for my running group is 82 and has just secured his place in the London Marathon again next year on the basis of 'good for age'. It will be his 20 something outing - this year he came in at around 5 hr 15. I am in awe! To be fair most of the group are retired - they have the time to run several times a weekI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I quite enjoy pushing myself to lung busting effort. Mad, I know!!
This morning's run included 8 x 2m15s max efforts, with equal recovery round a local undulating (hilly!!) park.
You know you've worked hard if you feel sick at the end!!! _pale_
Luckily the ParkRun course is flat!!:T
I completely agree. I'm a bit of a masochist too when it comes to exercise. Can't beat a good lung buster!0 -
Excessive exercise that puts huge strain on your joints isn't my bag but each to their own.0

Maybe ....but difficult to prove adverse health impacts (on joints) and metabolic benefits more than outweigh any costs.

No point having good knees, if you can't climb the stairs without oxygen!!:D:DHow's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
As well as maintaining my cardio capacity mainly with 5k runs and kettlebell work outs I've got much more into resistance training with weights and also yoga / platies type exercise.
I'm really into the yoga and movement stuff. Just makes me feel great.
Have you started doing other more wellbeing type exercise as well as your running? I'd think that is a huge benefit of having more time.0 -

yoga/pilates will improve your running as likelihood is you will have greater chance of remaining injury free and it is consistent training (not getting injured) that leads to better times etc0 -
The movement side is where I fail at the moment - working full time means that I choose the exercise that gives more 'bang for my buck' ie running with the occasional swim. I have signed up for a Yoga retreat day this month to have a go.
My Mum (71) has been doing aquarobics for quite a few years but has recently started doing Tai Chi.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
