It's being fitted this Sunday which was sooner than I thought they'd do it!

New customers should get good deals but not at the expense of long standing customers.
I've been with Sky for over 10 years. In that time I've had one new box as mine died and a fix for my dish. I've paid many times over to cover those things and the programmes I've received, why should I be penalised for being loyal?
If a current customer came back to my company to buy a new item I wouldn't charge them more than a new customer, that's what Sky try to get away with doing.0 -
hey guys, as I am no longer a 'sky worker' I thought I'd dish the inside dirt on how to get the cheaper deals..
With sky+, sky now owns amstrad, so in most cases can offer their customers a box for £15, with a possible install fee of £30. The cheapest skyHD will go for just now is £49. They are offering 6 months free line rental on their phones, can waive broadband activation and if your broadband just shot up by a fiver, call and complain - they'll reduce it again for a further 6 months.
Also, if you just want a cheaper bill - just call to cancel citing the economy as your reason - they can discount upto 25% in most cases.
Finally, don't be rude, abrupt or needy/greedy to the operator- at the end of the day it's at his/her discretion and if you keep 'em sweet, they'll throw discounts at you for making their day a little less hellish0 -

Thanks to everyone for all the advice and accounts of your dealings with Sky on the various threads on MSE on this subject. Read them all and was inspired to take action and contact them and see if they could help.
This was hastened by the fact our old box "died" recently after playing up for a while. It spluttered back into life for a bit, but isn't reliable any more. I was quoted £65 for a visit by the Sky Engineer.
So I rang cancellations and truthfully told them I had had a period of ill health before Christmas which had meant half-pay and so things were tight financially for a bit. I told them that my job involves travel, which it does, so I don't always get to see what I want to watch. I said I couldn't afford the £65 for a replacement old-style box. I told them I was thinking of cancelling and wanted to know how to go about it.
The operator was extremely nice & helpful and said straight away that they could give me Sky plus for £15 and no installation fee.She said she could see I had been a loyal customer and wanted to help me. I said I'd heard Sky plus was £199, but she said it was then, but wasn't now.
I only had to wait a few days until the engineer came and did the install. I've also had a receipt through the post from Sky, confirming they've only charged me £15.
Really pleased with this, as I was panicking when the old box died and I thought I was going to have to shell out £65 to put it right.
Thanks again for all the advice, everyone.:T Just sorry that this hasn't worked out so well for everyone.Big thanks to Martin Lewis for helping us start to sort out our finances!!!:A
