    Great thread.
I have been a sky customer for about 10 years and still have the original box.
Thought I might give it a go and try and get a good (free) deal on sky+.

Before I do, could someone explain what the engineer does for instalation?
I am worried they will need to run a new cable from the dish to the box, do they?

I ask because we had an intension about 4 years ago and the sky wiring is now plastered into the walls of the extension.

    Thanks.
Yes you'll have another cable put in, they also add a bigger LNB to the dish, the cable will just run alongside the old one though, they just drill a slightly bigger whole where the old one was and then follow the other cable.

As for your old wiring, my guess is they'll forget about that and start from scratch and put all new cable in. Well my OH would (easy life and also if they interfere with your plastering and you then complain it comes out of his pocket!)
  • I phoned to 'cancel' sky and was offered sky plus for £30 - result:beer:
  • If it helps anyone I am already a sky+ owner and I have just had a leaflet through the post if I introduce a friend they get a free sky+ box and you can get free broadband and sky talk or you can get sky+HD for £75. This does apply to new customers only. If your intrested get in touch through private message,
    Thanks:cool:

I phoned a little earlier on the above number.

I got Sky+ for free (originally it was £30, but I said I didn't want to pay anything. He stuck with £30 but went off to check and came back with it being free - stick to your guns)! HD was offered for £99.

I couldn't get anything package wise - I'm still on £47 a month for the lot. I may take off movies or something to reduce the cost.

It is a 12 month contract as well.
  • I rang saying that I needed to save some money and he tried to offer me sky+ for £30 and I said that I was skint. He then said switch the line rental to sky instead of BT and he would give me a years free line rental - I said ok

He then said what about taking off sky sports 2 but still keep sky sports 1 which would save me £8 a month - I said ok

Before he went I said ya know what I think I will go for the sky+ for £30

    So
    line rental save £120
Take off sky sports 2 £96
    Sky+ for £30 save £160
Saving £376 for a quick phone call!

    Do it!
  • I called tonight for my free sky+ box expecting a battle but was offered one very quickly!
I took the nice approach and rang to cancel, stating my reason as very rarely watching TV due to working shifts and missing the programmes I want to see. They suggested to me that Sky+ would be perfect for me (well yes I know this hence my call but played dumb and let them tell me all about it!). I let them know that this sounded great, but when they told me of the standard £210 cost of the box and installation so I let them know that there was no way I could afford this, afterall I've just got divorced and am a single mum (who are they to know my divorce was 7 years ago?! lol). Within seconds I was offered a free Sky+ box and just £60 installation. I did try to get the installation down but apparently this isn't possible although I was offered a free upgrade on my phone package to give me free calls both daytime and evening to reduce my costs.
I'm rather happy with this deal! Maybe I could have battled for a bit more but I had been on the phone long enough (30 minute wait to get through) and got what I set out to achieve so called it a day! I'd definately recommend to others taking the nice naive approach and letting them suggest to you that Sky+ could solve your problems, and throw in a little financial hardship sob story on the way....it worked for me! :j

Sorry if a bit off topic - just wanted to add i got Sky+ installed on Friday.
Was told engineer would be there between 12-6.
Took day off work (as i live an hour away so wouldve had to leave work at 11am which i wasn't allowed to do).
5pm - still no engineer. Rang Sky to be told he was "en route"
6.20pm still no engineer. Rang Sky to be told he was at another customers in my local area just finishing off and would be with me shortly and would phone my landline when he was on his way - he couldn't as i don't have landline - turns out they'd noted my work number when i called them and disregarded me giving them my mobile), i asked her to ensure she gave the engineer my mobile number.
7.45PM!! Engineer FINALLY arrives - had not received any calls from sky just a text at 6.20pm asking him to call me - he replied telling them he had incorrect number. By the time he arrived it was pitch black and raining - i had to stand outside and hold a torch for him - he finally left at 9.30pm!!! As it was not going through my landline he said it could take up to 4hrs to work - next morning still not working - i was out all day saturday and luckily by the time i got home it was fine - i'm composing a letter to sky tonite!
A home is not a home ..... without a dog
