well had a marathon conversation with SKy today, it took some doing but finally got sky plus for free if i took one of the movies mix (i got kids, family etc one)at an extra cost of £8 per month... i can cancel that mix after 30 days tho as school holidays coming up i may keep it til september
boy did it take some doing and i basically had to tell the man that i was going to cancel and stick with that.. he started putting the cancellation thru so i told him i had a friend who got skyplus for nothing and asked why i hadnt been offered it etc etc blaaah blaaah
anyways i got what i wanted in the end.,.. thanks everyone for good moneysaving advice here as usualWhen you know better you do better0 -
After reading these posts for a while I took the plunge. I've been with sky since the analogue days and also have sky broadband max. I have only a basic package with 3 mixes + news which sky call a fourth mix even though it's pretty much FTA.
I phoned 08442 4144141 and after a few menu options got through to cancellations. I told them I was unhappy about yet another price increase and I missed many of the programmes I did want because I was out. The nice Scottish guy tried to offer me an alternative mix, then a Sky+ box for £150 with free installation but I just kept saying no thanks.
After a couple of conversations with his 'Manager' he offered me a sky+ box with install for £49.00 which I accepted.
It's possible I could have got it for free if I'd held out but I didn't want the hassle of possibly getting my broadband disconnected in between times (their broadband product is excellent by the way) so I went for the deal.
I'm very happy - installation is this Saturday afternoon - can't wait!0 -
sky+ installed this morning, its a good box if it didnt keep going into standby mode on its own, also picture keeps breaking up, do to the engineer realigning the dish, will get on the phone tomorrow to get it sorted.0

We tried to get sky+ for free today, we have been paying £38 per month to include sky sports for the last 5 years. Advisor told us we could reduce our monthly payments to £25 for the next 3 month and keep all the same channells and get sky+ for £49 with installation at £30.
Adviser said to check weekly for offers as they keep changing.
I will wait three months and try again for free sky+ but am well pleased to reduce my payments to £25 a month.

Decided to try my luck...
Called the glasgow call center, told them that i was looking to cancel my subscription as my shift pattern had changed at work and that i now miss all the shows that i wanted to watch.
First customer service guy was really poor - no interest in why i was leaving or in trying to keep me with them.
Hung up and tried again 5 minutes later, through to a new guy who was very chatty and friendly and i told him same story as before.
"Have you considered sky+?" came the reply i was looking for.
Let him run through all the information about it and he told me that i could get it for £49 with free installation.
told him that it was a still a little much for me and asked if there was any way i could get it for less.
added 1 month of Sky Movies to my account for £10 - free sky+ box (pv3) and installation booked for monday morning.
My advice -
1 - if at first you dont succeed try, try again!
2 - be nice, get chatting with the person - makes them more inclined to say yes
3 - if they happen to ask why you have called again (if you didnt succeed the first time) tell them you were cut off while being transferred - they seem much more inclined to be helpful when that happens.

i desperatley want sky+ , i have the 2 mix and sports and also i am a sky talk and sky broadband base customer, i have recentley joined sky broadband so think i am tied in for 12 months.
can i threaten to cancel my sky contract if i am tied in?
looked on the website and they wanted 210 quid for a sky+ box!!!! madness.
whats the best way to proceed guys?0 -
I rang up to cancel this morning and got offered nothing- in fact I didn't even get asked why I want to cancel which is charming considering I've been a loyal customer for years paying by direct debit and I have premium mixes.:mad:0

I got my Sky+ installed yesterday, had to cancel my subscription and then signed up through O.H. at the local Sky stand in town centre. Just took 1 Month Movies and £30 installation. Just annoyed that I had to be 'sneaky' to get what others were getting for free. I think now every 12 months I shall cancel and just keep swoping between myself and O.H
What a way to run a business !!!!0
