Morning everyone,
Well, the roofer has just left and has quoted me £720 to do three of the four jobs I *really* need doing. He had done a few different jobs for me over the years and is very trustworthy so I know he's not ripping me off. Plus, he is happy to do the work next week but be paid by 31st January 2008! :j That takes some of the pressure off me money-wise as I now have time to seriously budget before having to dip into my meagre savings. So the store cupboard challenge starts here (again).
DS has orthodontist today to get his braces taken off then another app on Thursday to get his retainer fitted. He cannot wait as he is totally sick of the sight of the braces now. He also has a GCSE science test on Thursday so it won't be the best of days for him, wee soul.
redruby Happy Birthday to your DMum. Hope she has a lovely day.
HHester your life really is like a soap opera. Has "Peggy Sue" been asked to do more than have dinner with any of her *escorts*?
mrs mix is your DD at primary or secondary school? If she is at primary and her class hasn't been too affected, I would be tempted to send her. If she is at secondary and/or her class has been badly affected, I would speak to someone at school about my concerns.
Essex-girl hope DH manages to have the kidney stone removed somehow. He must be in a lot of pain, which must be awful for you to witness.
stefjb I wouldn't expect any significant change in XDH's behaviour (then again looks like you know that already.) How does your DD feel about it all?
pipkin hope the joints pain eases soon.
Pen-Pen looks like fun will be had in Yorkshire this Christmas. Could the "Yorkshire Elves" spare any pressies and send them across the Pennines?
mioliere there are two jobs that I absolutely detest, always have, always will. Ironing and peeling potatoes. I think it goes back to my childhood when I had to do both as part of my chores (I didn't have to iron for all 7 of us but even one shirt was an endurance test). Hope the oven is kind to you and cleans easily.
Amie what a lovely thing for your DMum to do for you. No cooking after a long day, bliss.
Right, I need :coffee: and something to eat before I start my busy day. Have a tremendous Tuesday one and all. x"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Morning all,
Bright and chilly here today, again. Must get out my really thick handknit from last year. DS1 says I look like a yetti in it but do I care?
Had a lovely evening last night. We had our first power cut of the year just as I was finishing off a scrapbooking page. Was miffed at first but soon DH had the power torches, candles and tealights all positioned around the room and it looked so cosy. DS1 came downstairs with his lappy and put music on for us (hmmmm:rolleyes: ) and DS2 snuggled under the throw with his dad. Spent the next hour or so chatting away. Was great. Lads followed us up upstairs later into our bedroom and we lit that up and all read. Was like going back in time to when the power strikes were on when I was 7. Made a lovely change.
Going to have another coffee and then put BM on to make a 'oaty loaf'. Not sure what that will be like but fancied it.
Hugs to all those poorly and feeling low.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

HESTER I don't believe it!!!!!!:D0 -
Howdy folks,
Had a busy day here. DH home as well. Not much work this week I'm afraid as there is a few hold-ups at the job site. Hopefully it will get sorted out soon. He got a ring from the specialist today and he has to go back early Dec so hopefully they can give him a date for his op. I suppose I"ll have to drag out my nurses uniform from the cupboard.
The real estate called OS today. He has the house so very good news there. :T Phew.
MrsMix I would have done that as well. Honesty is the best policy. I hope your knee op goes well.
Did some more knitting last night and NO I"m keeping it. I want to see how good they are before I knit them for gifts. Maybe next Xmas.
((((hugs)))) to those all poorly & I hope you all have a nice day. ByeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Morning everyone, Managed toget oh an apointment at the docs i phoned at 8.30 you have to ring early or you'd never get in the phone was engaged for a while oh went to get the car out and then decided to nip up the docs and make the apointment himself not knowing it was already made they thought he'd come 2 hrs early for his apointment lol asked him if he wanted a cuppa while he waited :rotfl:
Not sure what i'm doing to day i never seem to get anything done when oh is home i think he thinks the housework fairies come and clean the house lol, as every time i start to do something he tells me to sit down and have a cuppa lol. Last night Ds and dd made bisccuits with some tiny chrismas cookie cutters i found in the cupboard they both love cooking whereas dd2 who wants to be a cook always pulls a face when i ask her if she wants to make something.
Hugs to everyone who needs them net x x x0 -
Pam - good luck with the vampire lady this morning. Thinking of you.
REDRUBY - well done on finishing your Christmas cards. Mine are still looking at me!
ELLIE - tell you what - do your oven first then come and do mine! I'm sure you're better at it than me!
ANNIEBOOKLOVER - I remember having to peel mountains of spuds when I had a pocket-money job as a 13 year old in a hotel. I only ever peel them now if I'm going to roast or mash them - apart from that, we eat them, skins and all. My DH will do them if I ask, but he takes about an hour and a half to peel just three and he makes it look so difficult, I can't stand to watch! Peeling spuds is one of the first jobs I do in the morning, now, and any other veg that needs doing for dinner - at least it gets it out of the way. I have tendonititis in my hands which gets worse as the day goes on. As for the ironing, I've hated it with a vengeance since my DH was in the RAF - the uniform shirts were a s*d to iron. When he left, I thought that would be the last of them but he kept them and they lasted for years and years. I was so glad to throw the last one out! I wish he'd kept his number 1 uniform, though! It was lovely and he looked so dishy in it!
AMIE - your Mum sounds lovely. Mine is coming for Christmas - she's a lovely lady and we'll spoil her rotten. She stayed last year and we gave her a really full Christmas stocking and she was as excited as a six-year old!
CHEERFULNESS - what a lovely family evening you had last night. I think it's lovely just to sit and enjoy each other's company like that. We often just sit and listen to old records, in candlelight and with a bottle of wine, and it is so relaxing. I think it does your soul good.
PENPEN - you sound as if you've got a lovely Christmas to look forward to.
MR AND MRS ESSEX-GIRL - thinking of you both - hope you soon feel better.
Well, the veggies have been prepped; we're having one of DH's favourites for dinner, mince beef and onions in gravy with new potatoes, carrots and courgettes, so that's an easy no-think meal. I have just walked to the shops for some milk and the paper, the paperwork is ready to be finished off this afternoon and the ironing board is up and waiting - I shall go and do that in a minute.
Hope everyone is having a good day. See you all later.

Hi Guys!!
Back from the hospital and feeling a little better today:j ...injections start in the morning daily....so not looking forward to that!
WM is on ATM as is the DW and toilet has been scrubbed.
This morning OH cut loads of veg up and have made a huge Sausage Cassarole (feeding MIL/FIL this evening)..there should be about 8 portions so will let them have an extra portion each for their freezer and I'll keep one here for us for a lunch with baked spud. Also made a lovely (1.2ltr) chicken and veg soup using up the leftover chicken from Sunday. Should make loads of portions and will freeze but let MIL/FIL try a portion too for their tea later. MIL has just come out of hospital...so just doing my bit. Have the chicken breasts out ready for the Green Thai curry I'll be trying later. I am hoping this will freeze well too as there should be about 6-8 portions as Im making double'ish.
Still havent decided on sticking with the course or not as I really just cant get my head around it and have revision for another exam I am taking in April.
OH is tidying out the airing cupboard as it is in quite abit of a mess. We also have some bedding that we dont use and hasnt been used alot, so may stick on Ebay and do someone else a turn as its a decent brand that should sell fine. Also have a handmade throw that I might Ebay too as it never gets used and all the extra money will be used to buy other things we need.
Wrapped 5 pressies up yesterday. December is a busy month for us as we have our anniversary (14 years this year:eek:    )...and DD is 13:eek:   ...where has the time gone?????? DD is after a laptop and she has saved £200 towards it already. Think she is going to ask for cash this year to contribute towards it but have got her a few lovely bits that she wanted already...all at bargain prices of course:D
Anyway, I have to go and have a bowl of this soup and roll with lashings of butter:o
Hugs to all.
