Tamsin,a well cared for goldfish can live up to 30 years.

I saw an article (unfortunately I forget where) and someone had a goldfish who lived til 45 and was still going.........

Stunting does not sound nice at all to be honest.
  • I know most staff in pet shops dont know or care about the fishes you are buying but this bloke wouldnt let me buy the fish i wanted (a golden orfe) as my tank was too small and he said they were pond fish. i did get 2 for my pond and considerin they were like small goldfish when i got them they are now over a foot long and ive only had them a couple of yrs!!

I totally agree that they are very hard to look after if you want them to be totally healthy and live as long as they should, just cos its a fish doesnt mean they are less worthy of basic fish rights lol :p
ive stuck to a pond as I find that much easier to get right

There are smaller coldwater fish that will do well in your tank. Check out white cloud mountain minnows and zebra danios, for starters.
That was going to be my next question...are there any cold water fish that don't grow so big! ds just wants fish in a tank to look after :)

Hi, I have a tropical fish tank and several days ago, I received some new plants that I had ordered to furnish my tank, as it looked as it needed more plants. Since adding these plants, I have lost a fish, for no apparent reasons, there was certainly nothing on the fish or its behaviour to indicate that it was unwell. I do regular weekly water changes and also test the water and the readings are in the appropriate ranges. I am wondering if one the plants I added is poisonous to my fish. The other fish appear to be ok.

    Nothing lives for ever.

Give it a day or two and see what happens.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    Hi,
I always sterilize my plants in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, add a few crystels till the water turns mauve, leave for aabout 20-30 mins. Add dechlorinator till the water turns brown take plants out, rinsh thoroughly, add to tank.

Be aware SOME plants are very sensitive and their leaves will die! But if there are snails on the plants it will kill them.

I agree with the previous poster it was probably coincidence though.
