Any other fishkeepers out there?

Thanks for the mathematical assistance! And the links! So much to learn..! The tank looks great anyway - hoping I can keep it that way. (Got the sunken treasure chest already..!)0

I have read practical fishkeeping in the past, but stopped as some of their info wasn't as good as the info I got from people online who had many years of fishkeeping experience under their belt. They didn't seem to promote fishless cycling much either.
Maybe that has changed in the past couple of years.
Google 'fishless cycling' or PM me if you want a help.
Fishless cycling is preparing your tank for keeping fish but without any risk of fish dying...imho the only way to go...Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

It must have changed then because they all recommend fishless cycling now on the site. There are stll many new people ask for help when it is too late and half the fish have suffered and died because they were just too impatient,or worse, they were given bad advice from the very people they trusted, the shop/lfs who sold them the tank and fish in the first place!!0

Frogelt - I'm glad to hear it, hopefully the magazine has changed it's stance - it is that I was talking about. It is quite hard to get a hold of round here without pre-ordering it, but as I said it had some poor advice in it so I stopped buying it...
I have kept my fishes fit and healthy using advice from people online.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

We have inherited a tank with 6 rummynose tetras, 8 harlequins, 8 emperor tetras. What size tank should they be in? At the moment their tank is around 150 litres I think (haven't yet measured but will do asap) and I wonder if it's a little small for them?0
-
If it is 150 litres then it will be fine,as you have small fish,in good shoal numbers. The main way to keep them healthy is the quality of the filter, good maintenance and dechlorinating the water before water changes.0

I agree- that sounds like a really nice tank you've inherited!
You could add a few bottom dwellers too, around 6 small corydoras - we had adolfo's cories which stay about 1 1/2 inch long, will scavenge food off the bottom and enjoy an algae wafer now and then.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

My 7 yr old has asked if he can have a fish tank and some fish for christmas. Can anyone recommend a easy to maintain aquarium that's will hold about 4 gold fish. It's his main christmas present so I would be willing to spend around about £50, but could go up to £100 if it was really necessary as his grandparents are willing to chip in for it too.
I've had a look in a few shops but I don't really know much about proper tanks and filters etc, all we've had in the past are those kiddy aquariums with plastic plants and filters that don't really work very well0
