He may have space but he doesn't have others of his own kind, and corys are fish that like to swim around with at least 2 others or they get stressed.I have 4 ft tank and they are a delight to watch in a shoal,as they always do everything together.
Yes i thoroughly recommend the Practical Fishkeeping site,it is brilliant, and there is so much info there.0 -

Hi, my OH agrees with this. The poor fish will be lonely.
Also he has told me they are bottom feeders and need a large flat area to search for food.
Another person who also uses Practical Fishkeeping site!

Hi,
Are you saying that your original sponge filter media is ten years old?

Hi,
Are you saying that your original sponge filter media is ten years old?
keely.
Believe it or not, yes they are ten years old, apart from the regular rinse through with aquarium water , the filters have never been changed and appear ok and seem to work ok as I don't have any problems.(These are the main filters I am refering to , the carbon filter and the polypad filters are changed regularly.)
Why do you ask? is this an unusually long time ? I am curious as to how often you change yours.0 -
Nitrate filters -are they worth it?
Opinions please, do these nitrate removal filters actually work? or are they just another selling gimmick to extract our hard earned cash from us.
I have ran a Juwel 125 litre tank for approx 10 years and everything is running fine, but I've recently noticed a nitrate removal filter for sale which replaces the top course sponge in the filter set-up. As this is recommended to be replaced every 3-6 weeks, this seems to me to be a sales fronted promotion, rather than a benefit to the tank set-up.
At the moment I am still on the original filters(although I do clean them out on a regular basis!) and so therefore are actually costing me nothing to run, whereas replacing one of them with a nitrate removal filter would cost me substantially more!
I would not mind paying the extra if there was some benefits to doing so.
So have any of you fishkeepers out there actually used them? and if so have you noticed any improvement? or are you sceptical like me?
Opinions please.0 -

I don't consult the vet - not many treat fish, my vet asks me about his fish so I alway buy stuff from the Pet shop - Interpet stuff mostly although I have used the waterlife stuff - Alot of fish people recommand it.
White spot is fairly standard illness, evil thing! good luck with it!

From my OH;
Yes it is unusual as the filters aren't just for filtering they are storage for healthy bacteria that the fish and tank need to survive. This is only a personal opinion but i have found that waste from the tank builds up within the filter material over a period of approx one year which i have found that the bacterial doesnt survive as well after this period. This will of course differ on the type and amount of fish that are actually kept within the tank at any one time. Understandable you wash them out in tank water which will help. I congratulate you on keeping your filters in such good condition.
As i said, he's the fish keeper not me-its his hobby (or should i say obsession lol!) It seems you're not having any problems though!
