Well, life certainly has it ups and downs.
I went to visit my friends I used to live with last night, and whilst I was there, some little [insert your choice of expletive here] decided to play trick or treat on my car, and smashed in my rear windscreen
So, currently waiting to call my insurance and double check whether claiming on the glass cover for a replacement windscreen (£75 excess) will affect my NCD. It didn't when I got the chip repaired, and it's under the same cover, so should hopefully be fine. More money to spend! I do have the car insurance pot saved up, so it doesn't need to actually affect my budget, but I'm hoping to budget it from my actual money, and just have a tight month/buy last minute presents next month instead. *Sigh* I was being so organised... just means I might struggle to pay off all debt by the new year, though it may still be possible from my wages I will get at the end of December.
I also need to phone one of my CC providers as I don't have the physical card and was always able to log in with my username and password, so need to try and sort something out there.0 -
Arggh! that is so frustrating! These people have no respect at all for other peoples things at all. I really hope that it can be sorted without damaging your NCD. We have had a surge in teenagers throwing stones from bridges at cars and buses. They are idiots!0

I know, I was so angry!
However, NCD not affected and all booked in for tomorrow night to have the repair carried out0 -
Well, I am still car-less and awaiting a repair, they turned up on Saturday despite all of the forecast rain, with a van without a canopy, and told me the earliest they could re-book for is Wednesday... the less said on that, the better. [sods law as I'm typing this, they have booked it in for this evening, weather permitting :rotfl: it's not forecast to rain, so fingers crossed everyone!]
So, not a NSD today as I needed to pay for the train to get to work, thankfully tomorrow I am off work, and Wednesday I think I can get a lift with OH in the morning, then have my awards thing in the evening, so would have paid for a train into London, anyway.
Still making my protein smoothies in the weekday mornings for breakfast, this morning had kiwi and pineapple, I think in future if I have kiwi I'll put some sweet fruit/berries into it as it is quite tangy. Still, I'll weigh myself Wednesday morning and see where I am vs Tuesday evening last week.
Not much else to report, really, most DD's have gone out, waiting for my £25 from Opinium research to come through to pay off of CC3, which will take my debt total so close to the £1k bracket and not the £2k bracket, the temptation to empty out my annual car costs for next year pot is unreal, to make sure I am definitely debt-free by 2020, but I don't want to add to my list of things to save quickly for in the first few months of the year.0 -
I wish life had as many up's as it does downs....
My windscreen was repaired on Monday night for £75, I started the car last night and it sounded absolutely awful, was juddering, and I have a pretty serious warning light on my dashboard. I got inside, cried for about five minutes, then decided I wasn't throwing any more money at a £600 car that I plan to get rid of in a few months anyway.
So, long story short, I have been approved for car finance, it's not the way I wanted to do it, but my plan is that the money from my online work I was going to save between now and March (ish) is just going to be used to overpay and settle the car finance in the same sort of time frame anyway, so the end result is still the same, I just will end up paying a small amount of interest.
Of course, now that I'm hoping to test drive a car tomorrow evening (if the garage can make an out of hours appointment for me) I cannot find my driving license. I have pulled apart the house and NADA. I am hoping to randomly find it tonight after my awards thing or tomorrow morning, but I have ordered another one in case it doesn't turn up, it may just mean I don't get the car that I want to view. We shall see.
The plus side here is that I will get a (hopefully) more reliable car sooner than expected, it will have a 12 month MOT so won't need to worry about that for a while, and it hopefully shouldn't cost me much more than I was planning to spend originally.
Such is life!!
On the plus side, I cashed out £25 from Opinium Research which was paid into my bank account today, so I paid £26 to CC3, which brings it under £200, and leaves me just over £50 away from being in the 1's in my debt figure.
I have my works award dinner tonight for my Unsung Hero award, in a super fancy hotel, I just plan to stick around until I can leave as I obviously still have to get up early for work tomorrow!
On another positive note, I have been referred now to the physio team who can examine my foot in greater depth and these are the guys who can make referrals for scans and tests, so I am slowly getting to the people I need to see! Just waiting for a letter to come through to book the appointment. Hopefully next year will be the year that it is fixed!
So, there we have it, I think I'm about one more disaster away from having a mental breakdown but fingers crossed life decides to give me a little break after this!0 -
I had to do very similar this time last year when my beloved car needed one too many remedial repairs
you have to know when you are throwing good money after bad
I too needed finance - it isn't ideal and it goes against what we are trying to achieve however its a "must have" rather then a want and with winter approaching you need to be in a safe and reliable vehicle0 -

Agreed this is definitely a must-have, it would cost me so much more in time & money to commute to work on the train, I need a reliable car!0 -
Today is a MUCH better day
I found my drivers license, so all good for the test drive this evening, and I've been accepted onto another project with my online work, so feeling very happy this morningI have a good feeling about this car! By all accounts, if I like it, they'll sort everything out with the finance and paperwork tomorrow, and I'll be able to collect it on Saturday. My plan is just to SORN the old car until I decide if I should sell it with the faults listed or just scrap it, luckily we have our drive to keep it on so no immediate rush.
I didn't win anything at the awards last night, and it was a palaver getting there with cancelled trains, but it was a good evening all in all and only cost me £4 as the trains were cancelled so my boss has re-imbursed me for an Uber I took, instead.
£25 DD has gone out this morning for CC3, so that is ready to be paid off next week, and CC2 paid off as much as I can, too.
Feeling super positive :T:T0 -
Glad you are feeling more positive. Boo to car trouble! It would be interesting to know the scrap value of your car. We've had one experience where we got £90 and then gave an old car away to a friend and they eventually got £500+ for it scrap value. There's a website online that's recommended that offered £136, I think if I actually just list it on eBay with the few bits that aren't quite right I might be able to get a few hundred pound for it - as it's financed outside of the car dealer I didn't want to really faff around with trading it in.
I just got back from the test drive and I LOVE IT. It's coming home with me on Saturday as long as all of the actual finance stuff goes through okay tomorrow, don't see why it wouldn't they've already approved me and given me my monthly payment etc. It's so damn fancy compared to my current one :rotfl: :rotfl: (I am pretty much happy dancing around my house right now hahaha)
Paid £100 for them to hold it but get that back on Saturday, they were quite flexible with how much I could leave for the deposit, it's getting a fully service and 12 month MOT tomorrow, been fully valeted for my test drive, and they dropped me back to the train station to go home, so feeling good about it all!
Happy happy happy :j0
