We have an air compressor at home for the tyres - definitely helps and saves time.

  • We have an air compressor at home for the tyres - definitely helps and saves time.

    That's helpful to know :D
  • It's been a busy weekend with packing!!

I am making good progress, there will be more tonight as we now aren't having OH's kids until the weekend in the new house, so I can start packing away all of their bits and pieces and I am going to attempt to disassemble their bunk beds :rotfl:

Three more days of full-time work and then three whole days off - I plan to get enough done today so that there will be time for me to just relax all day on Thursday :j
  • Well, Monday is here again but it doesn't seem so bad when it's a third of my working week!

I did it! I dismantled the triple sleeper bunk bed all by myself! :j :j
It's reassuring in a weird way that if it ever came to it, I would be able to manage with most things of living alone lol.
The poles are all labelled for quick assembly at the new house and the different bolts and washers etc all bagged up in the right sections for the bed, no messing around when it comes to putting it back up :rotfl:

Most of the crockery is now packed away, I literally have left out two plates, two bowls, two mugs and two glasses for us to use, everything else is packed away. Kids' bedding washed ready to go on fresh and clean in the new house.

Most sundries etc are now away as we won't use them, I just need OH to get cracking with his stuff as it's frustrating me not seeing it move :rotfl: he will be doing it on the evenings he is home early, though, he's been working all weekend.

No spends over the weekend, and I managed to use up some bits from the freezer for my dinner.

We will actually be ready to leave straight away on Saturday morning by the looks of it :rotfl: when we moved in, and we moved the stuff from OH's flat, he was still dismantling things on the morning which annoyed my brother (who helped/is helping us) so I am making sure we are literally ready to go when he pulls up this time :D
  • Next plan of action added to the list for the house move - all of the cleaning jobs that will need doing.

I have been very, VERY sad and made bullet points for each room in the house of jobs that will need doing for it to be counted as thoroughly cleaned, and when I get home they will be transferred onto post-its to be put into each room.

Some are really small and quick, like wiping down the front of all of the cupboards/units in the kitchen and some will require more time (such as cleaning the oven)

Thankfully nothing in the tenancy says "professionally cleaned", just "thoroughly cleaned". We have been talking about hiring a rug doctor for the carpets but as they are relatively clean I am wondering if we could get away with some of the vanish carpet cleaner that you put down and hoover up when dry? Anyone used this kind of thing before? It would be so much more cost-effective vs hiring the carpet cleaner if we could get away with it.

The bathroom requires most of the pesky jobs - descaling the taps, blitzing the shower try, scrubbing various bits of the toilet, etc, but most of the jobs should not take too long at all or can be done in unison to save time :)

It seems that you are very much on the ball with regards to trying to make sure move goes as smoothly as possible. Hopefully the hard work you are putting in now will benefit you on moving day :)
  • Well, the majority of the packing is now done, we powered through lots of it last night. Clothes need packing now that we both know the bare minimum that we need, the rest that's really out is chilled/frozen food in their respective homes, toiletries in the bathroom and 2 cups, 2 plates, etc. Tonight will be cleaning-based!

Made a small OP of £7.50 to DT2, i should get a few more in before the end of the month, too.

We have opted to try the cheaper option of doing the carpets, OH paid for those bits, so I will be testing a patch out tonight to see if it comes up to a nice standard. I also added some new cleaning gloves to his purchases as I will be using quite a few different cleaning bits tonight and don't want to kill/dry out my hands

Just today and tomorrow at work, thankfully I have got the hottest day of the week off as it is like a literal greenhouse where I work. So, I'm kind of glad it'll be someone else sitting here in the 37 degree heat and I will actually be out seeing some of the sunshine & nice weather (although I may have to go into the suitcase for a revised outfit for that kind of heat :rotfl: )

3 days til payday from the second job, I need to try and see if I can change one of my DD's as it is creeping forwards, lined up with a payday that falls on the 28th like my second job, which is fine sometimes, but I try to send the extra £200 straight over to OH from my second job and I can't do that if this DD is coming out before my main pay. It's not the end of the world to split up the extra payment to OH, I just prefer to do things all in one go where I can. Less to remember another day, then!

Budget still on track for next month to clear the two debts, and should have around £50-£100 to pay down DT4, also. I will see how much I can spare for that once all the purchases for the house etc have been done!
  • Last few hours of work until Sunday :D

I am looking forward to not having to set an alarm tomorrow. As i'm sure most people did, we got woken up last night by the weather. However, it wasn't the thunder or lightning, that was all quite mild where we were. It was the massively heavy rain coming down on our windows, which are like skylight windows, so the massive drops of rain were just hammering onto the glass every 30 minutes or so. Didn't sleep well at all! Bizarre to thing the weather was like that overnight, and then beautiful again today...

I got started with some of the cleaning last night, mostly getting rid of limescale in the bathroom and wiping down kitchen cupboards. Unsurprisingly, the grubbiest ones were the ones where the little people head straight to when they get in the door, i.e. fridge and the cupboard that had the crisps, sweets, etc. It's the same with the light switches they use the most, they never stay clean!

Tomorrow I get to order our bits for the new house to be delivered on Friday, and I also want to look for a silicone ice cube tray (figure the kids will have an easier time with that than a solid plastic one) and a long duster, hoping to be able to pick those up relatively cheaply. I keep meaning to buy a potato sack as well, ours sprout quite quickly and I've read it's because they're being kept in the plastic packaging? The people I used to live with used to put them in a sack and they never had sprouty potatoes!

I'll be doing some tip runs tomorrow (that'll be pleasant in the 37 degree heat :rotfl: ) as I'm off for the whole day and am meeting my Nan about five minutes away from the tip anyway, so it's only fair that I do it. It's a fairly new one, and unbelievably nicely organised.

I think we have literally packed most things that we can possibly pack, all that is left out are the crockery bits we will use that are less than a box full, even the cleaning products are in a cardboard box to get out as needed and then quickly seal up on moving day. The only thing that won't really be ready on the morning is the little sofa upstairs (it was my brother and his friend that got it up there in the first place, so they'll be the best to bring it down again) and the washing machine. Everything else will be dismantled and downstairs, ready to go out to the van. I might even suggest that we get all the stuff down from the kids bedroom tonight, so that I can clean the carpet in there tomorrow, one less room to worry about at the weekend, then.
