I am also trying to be more together in a few aspects of my life – timekeeping, ironing, keeping the car clean. Basic things most people seem to manage quite well! Darn seagulls are making that last one difficult though :rotfl:

I struggle with keeping my car clean! I wish it was something that came easier to me, as well as keeping our house tidy and particularly the yard part of our garden. I get real adults do this without difficulty. But life is short and I'm pretty certain on my death bed I'm not going to be lamenting the tidiness of my car! :p

  • Morning purps and foxgloves - you are both up early!

I've pulled the trigger today and bought our flights for October. Flights have ended up being £200 less than the quote I got the other day, although we have had to get a nightmare flight back! (01.50 departure ) The flights were a good price the other day as well :T I almost have enough in my holiday piggie for my half :money:

    Today:

    * taking pup for a run after school run
    * filling, sanding and sugar soaping madam's room
    * need to finish off work for a customer and hem skirt. Really gutted about the skirt as the fabric isn't great and rides up around the hips. Luckily I didn't spend too much on it! (buy cheap pay twice springs to mind :()
    * pin a little jumpsuit I got madam so I can alter. Will be a 20 minute job when I actually get on and do it!
    * load of washing and hang out
    * all meals from stores
    * I do need to nip to the farm shop and get some veg
    * sort out cc statement and pay off transferring from various "pots"
    * just noticed 2 little tears in madam's school dress while I was ironing. Used wonder web and a little iron on interfacing to repair :money:
    * call 2 places to enquire if vacancies still vacant - yesterday's shadowing just confirmed I no longer want to work in the field I do :(
    * take pup for a walk with madam after school
    * pot on a few plants

Ok that's loads! Hope to get it all achieved though....

    Morning all

Great to hear from you La E, hope everything is going well.
    And welcome Unibear.

Bit of a hellish day yesterday - I didn't get the job ('we'll keep your details on file...'), which was disappointing. But to make things even worse, my lodger (who was supposed to be moving in on Friday) has changed his mind. So two sources of income evaporated in one day.

I have another interview on Friday, but it's only for an 8 week temp job to cover the summer - better than nothing, but only slightly!!
Up to now, I've had a cleaner coming in once a week (she's been coming for years, started when I had a bad hip and struggled to get the hoover up and down the stairs, but I kept her on when the hip got better...). But in view of the financial situation I'm going to have to let her go - if I'd got the job and the lodger I could have afforded to keep her, but now I have to make the tough decision. She'll be here on Thursday, so I'll give her a week's notice then. I'm very p'd off with OH right now, that he's put me in the position of having to do this to someone who has done nothing wrong, especially as we were hoping she would actually get some extra work from the lodger.
Looks like it's going to be a wet miserable day today, which suits my mood perfectly. And also leaves me with no excuses for not doing several jobs that I've been putting off -
    - I need to contact EDF about my smart meter (again) - next step is a formal complaint I think. Formal complaint raised. We'll see if that gets us any further forward.
    - I need to get my head around Quickbooks, which isn't nearly as easy to use as Sanjeev Bhaskar in the tattoo parlour would have you believe... Cracked the back of it. The 'help' button isn't terribly helpful if you're trying to do anything even slightly out of the ordinary. But I'm making progress, and don't feel like it's looming over me now - will do a bit more tomorrow.
    - I need to sweep out the garage (the cleaner only ever cleaned 2 of the 4 floors - I do the rest!), mop the floor in the basement/laundry room, and dust the venetian blinds in the kitchen, bathroom and attic. Nah
    - have another go at knitting bootees for the soon-to-be-delivered 4th grandchild (I've knitted 3 so far, and not been happy with them!). I've got 11 days (give or take...) to get it right. Went and spent £2.99 on some new wool for the bootees - wish me luck!! One pair of funky bootees made.

Hope the rain doesn't spoil your plans - have a good day anyway!

    Morning all :)
Sorry you didn't get the job Trailingspouse :( Good luck with your upcoming interview.
DNMS I have a mucky car as well :o There always seems to be quite enough cleaning to do in the house without that as well!

Took ages to get off to sleep last night, so I managed to stay asleep till almost 7, which is most unusual for me. Slow start, but I have washed my hair, which is currently drying naturally, and had breakfast.
    Today I will:
    Wash down kitchen cupboards
Take my boots to be reheeled - they will need a good clean and polish when I get them back, but they will do another year - had them for 3 years already, and wear them nearly every day in the winter / when it is cold :)
Try and motivate myself to list some more things on ebay / facebook marketplace
Find some spaces to plant some cabbage plants I unwisely bought at the weekend :o
Make some scones or a cake
Make a frittata for dinner, to use up lots of odd veg bits
More coffee needed first of all!

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Hello there

Gosh Merida - life is defo too short :p A tip my aunt showed me is that when you are buying clothes crumple them up as tight as you can in your hand. If the material crumples in the shop then it is a 'no buy' for me :D

That is a great tip for buying anything new! I just don't want to bin the things I have already - mostly light summer things anyway so come autumn I shall be back in my long sleeved T shirts under blazers, no ironing required then!

I'm not talking sparkling clean here, just not actually entirely brown with mud... but yep I also agree on house and garden tidyness, it's just not exciting at all - but I do like to *be* in a relatively calm and tidy space.
    Morning all

Bit of a hellish day yesterday - I didn't get the job ('we'll keep your details on file...'), which was disappointing. But to make things even worse, my lodger (who was supposed to be moving in on Friday) has changed his mind. So two sources of income evaporated in one day.

Really sorry to hear this - hope something comes together soon xx

    On to yesterday’s update:
    - Meal plan (only got as far as tomorrow, need to buy bread today and am sick of supermarkets – do NOT want to be going more than once this week). I’m all out of ideas tbh, I feel so uninspired in the kitchen at the moment. Honestly if I could have milk, we’d just have cheese toasties all week. At least they’d be cheap - done!!!
    - Supermarket shop WITH LIST - done
    - Send card to sis with what is possibly the last Christmas 2017 stamp – written, not posted yet
    - Agree weekend plan with OH - nope
    - Mending or sock-knitting. Probably mending as I would like my blue blazer back in the work rotation – mostly done, need to finish blazer and re-do a hanging loop today
    - Gym AM to use the membership - done
    - No alcohol (day 9 :D) - done

    Also did meter readings :A

    Today’s list:
    - POST THAT CARD
    - WEEKEND PLAN
    - All meals and snacks from stores
    - Bike to work PM (if not chucking it down)
    - Finish mending blazer
    - No alcohol

I know it’s not been long, but I think the alcohol free time is doing me good – I’m sleeping better and much less anxious already. OH said my makeup looked particularly nice today, really fresh and healthy… I hadn’t actually put any on :rotfl: (I've since seen myself in a mirror at work, and I am questioning his eyesight... or how rough I have been looking )

    Afternoon all,
Trailing, sorry to hear you didn't get that job, hopefully the right job for you is around the corner.
Ziggy, sorry to hear that a friend has left you feeling low.
Dnms, I also hope the right job for you is on the horizon!
    to all.

I started to post this morning but it was all doom and gloom about the thing I don't have any control over so I decided to do something that I can control. My eating isn't great when I'm anxious/stressed/hormonal (well at any time really!! need to lose more then 5st :( )
So I've made a chicken curry (that I didn't do yesterday) with loads of veg in it that needed using up from the fridge. I've taken mince out of the freezer and will make a chilli tomorrow. The last of the bag of onions that were starting to go off I've diced ready to go in the chilli. I've made the families lunches for tomorrow early as I only had enough bread for them and I'd nearly put it in the toaster to have toast with chocolate spread on for my breakfast - if I'd had that bread it would have meant needing to go to the shop today instead of tomorrow and if I can go an extra day between shops it means they make do rather then cherry picking if you see what I mean!
I've also stewed two wrinkly apples with some berries from the freezer, this can be a dessert for us all tonight with the little bit of yogurt left in the fridge (dh has a habit of leaving a part pot and opening a new one the next time!)
Saved the tops/bottoms of the peppers that I'd chopped for the curry and diced them into a freezer bag as its always a handy thing to have in to go on top of pizzas or to throw into another dish.

    Other then that I've
    # been to the gym and refilled water bottle there
    # boiled some eggs to go in sandwiches for tomorrow, after the water had cooled I've used that to water my pots on the front garden, its bashing it down with rain but the pots definitely needed more
    # washed ds1s gym kit on a super quick wash as he's messaged to say he needs it tomorrow, its currently hanging in my airing cupboard which is the warmest place
    # more spot cleaning of the carpet, my arm has had a good work out!
    # updated freezer list and written an outline of a meal plan for the rest of the week based on what we already have in.
    # written a shopping list and managed to knock a couple of bits off after tidying the cupboards
    # renewed library books online

Right I've finished my cuppa so I'm going to go and check banking next.
    Take care all.
